BARBARA WALTERS admits to having an affair with a married Senator in an episode of "The OPRAH WINFREY Show" that is scheduled to air next Tuesday.
According to the AP, the Senator was EDWARD BROOKE , a Massachusetts Republican who was the first African-American to be elected by a popular vote to the Senate, and the affair went on for several years in the 1970s.
Walters tell Oprah that a friend of hers at the time cautioned her against the risky relationship, saying, "This is going to come out. This is going to ruin your career."
