George Takai of "Star Trek" Fame to Marry

Mr. Sulu eyes a wedding date later this year. GEORGE TAKEI -- Mr. Sulu himself from the original "Star Trek" -- intends to wed his partner of 21 years, the Associated Press reports. BRAD ALTMAN said he proposed to Takei by getting down on one knee and popping the big question as the actor munched on a sandwich in their kitchen. Since then, the couple have bought each other turquoise and silver wedding rings for Sept. 14 nuptials that may verge on a "Star Trek" reunion! WALTER KOENIG , who "Trekkies" know as Chekov, will be the best man, while NICHELLE NICHOLS , who played Uhura, will be the matron of honor, according to the AP . LEONARD NIMOY , a.k.a. Mr. Spock, is expected to attend, though WILLIAM SHATNER (Captain Kirk, naturally) probably won't be one of the 200 invitees, as Takei has been outspoken about his dislike for the "Boston Legal" star over the years.
