Get Smart Beats Love Guru at Box Office

Steve Carell and newly single Anne Hathaway were the weekend box office champs. Their comedy, Get Smart , was No. 1, earning an estimated $39.2 million. The weekend's other big debut — Love Guru starring Mike Myers , Justin Timberlake and new mom Jessica Alba —debuted at No. 4. Fraught with bad reviews , the comedy raked in just $14 million. "Mike Myers, the master of the spy spoof, opens his movie against a spy comedy, and the spy movie genre was obviously a lot more appealing to audiences," Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Media By Numbers, told the Associated Press. In other box office news, Kung Fu Panda — featuring the voices of pregnant-with-twins Angelina Jolie and Jack Black — maintained the No. 2 spot, with an estimated $21.7 million.
