'Iron Man''s Stupendous Second Weekend

 
"The Insider" has your box office scoop! 'Iron Man' continued to blow away the competition this weekend, as ROBERT DOWNEY JR. 's superhero flick picked up another $50.5 million at the box office, bringing its total domestic receipts to $177.1 million, and the international total to a whopping $276.1 million, according to preliminary studio estimates. In the movie directed by JON FAVREAU ('Elf,' 'Zathura'), ROBERT DOWNEY, JR. plays Tony Stark, a billionaire industrialist and genius inventor whose captivity by insurgents motivates him to build a suit of armor to escape. Once free, he uncovers a nefarious plot with global implications and fine-tunes the high-tech suit to protect the world as Iron Man! GWYNETH PALTROW , TERRENCE HOWARD and JEFF BRIDGES co-star. Debuting in second with $20.2 million was 'Speed Racer.'
