Republican presidential nominee John McCain has canceled a scheduled appearance on the "Late Show with David Letterman " tonight, after announcing earlier today he would put his presidential campaign on hold to go back to Washington in an effort to work with lawmakers to aid the ailing economy.
He asked his Democratic opponent, Barack Obama , to also put his campaign on hold and asked to cancel this Friday's scheduled debate between he and Obama. Obama is scheduled to release a statement Wednesday afternoon on the topic.
Left-wing MSNBC commentator Keith Olbermann will appear on "Letterman" tonight in McCain's place, along with "Grey's Anatomy"'s actress Chandra Wilson and musical guest, Aussie singer/songwriter Delta Goodrem .
