Steve Phillips -- former General Manager of the New York Mets -- has been fired from his job as a baseball analyst at ESPN, following reports that surfaced last week that Phillips had an affair with a female coworker.
A spokesperson for the cable network released the following statement to ET: "[Phillips'] ability to be an effective representative for ESPN has been significantly and irreparably damaged, and it became evident it was time to part ways."
Phillips released a statement to ET on Thursday that he was taking a leave of absence following reports that he had become romantically involved with a female ESPN employee.
