Captain, Life is Not a Dream [Fantastic Fest Spock's Drafthouse Crowd]
Published 4/7/2009 by oh, steph at Austinist
... are moments in time that we wish we could be multiple places at once, moments that we wished we had some sort of teleportation device that could beam us from a point of origin to a far away destination and back again. Last night we had one of those moments as we were sipping a cold beer at the Cactus Cafe, listening to the sweet sounds of Southpaw Jones, reading our twitter feed. We saw a message, er, "tweet" from our friends over at Film School Rejects: "I just sat and watched a Star Trek movie of some kind two seats away from ...

Two Fan Shorts Of Note
Published 3/24/2009 by Dave at TheBadandUgly.com
... I don’t have a lot of time, and the person who was supposed to give me a copy of Final Cut hasn’t come through, so - to me - these two fan videos are exemplary. Above, Iron Man fights Bruce Lee by filmmaker Patrick Bolvin from Canada and below a Wall-E/Watchmen trailer mashup that doesn’t sound like it would work, but certainly does. Both of these videos from our partners in Crave, Film School Rejects. ShareThis

... wigs slapped on to them. And let me tell you...I was just going through some of my childhood toys, and found among my Barbies one sole Ken doll. As funny as it is he does not age well...The material and the structure of the doll is just terrible. Now apparently these dolls are not in stores yet. I wonder if we'll get them here...and will they even get snapped up? I don't imagine little girls grabbing for them...and would actual collectors want them too? Pic: [Source]

Culture Warrior
Published 2/27/2009 by Landon (talkalotsaynothing@gmail.com) at talking a lot without ever really saying anything.
I'm happy to announce that I've recently joined the staff of Film School Rejects, where I'm writing a weekly column called "Culture Warrior," an assessment of filmic trends in relation to larger culture similar to what I've done on this blog the past year and a half. Needless to say, the time I usually devote to blogging on such matters is now largely being put towards the column. Of course, "Culture Warrior" is not replacing this blog in any way, and I'll be sure to update with at least one or two posts per month (I realize that I never posted very often ...

Ping Pong Playa

... star. When his mother and brother are injured in a car accident, however, C-Dub is forced to help out with the family ping pong business by teaching his mom’s beginner class and filling in for his champion brother at the upcoming tournament. Following the same formula as most underdog sports comedies (including the mandatory training montage and cartoon villain), “Ping Pong Playa” makes up what it lacks in originality with a never-ending supply of comic energy. To quote my good friend Neil Miller of Film School Rejects, actor/co-writer Jimmy Tsai is “crazy ...

2009 SXSW Film Festival Preview
Published 1/29/2009 by Scott at We Are Movie Geeks
Now that Sundance 2009 is over, its time to start looking to the 2009 SXSW Film Festival in Austin Texas. Hopefully we will be covering this event, as I submitted my press credentials today. Here is what we can look forward to in 2009. First up on the slate is the new Seth Rogen movie ‘Observe and Report‘ which is supposed to be a dark comedy about a Mall Cop(thanks ‘Paul Blart’ for ruining the mall cop genre) who has to take down a mall flasher. Dark comedy so far hasnt been in Rogen’s resume, so we will see how this one goes but I am ...

Clint Eastwood Is The Man - Figuratively And Literally
Published 1/3/2009 by Vic Holtreman at Screen Rant
Over at Esquire there’s an interview with Clint Eastwood, and I just had to post some excerpts here. This has been a rough year for Hollywood in regards to the passing away of some awesome actors and directors from an earlier era. An era before political correctness and sensitivity training ruled the day. We’ve lost the likes of old greats like Roy Scheider, Charlton Heston, Paul Newman and Sydney Pollack (among many others). And I’m already dreading the day we lose Clint Eastwood. ...

The End Of Movie Criticism In General

Paul Greengrass to direct “Trial of the Chicago 7″?

The characteristically cool-handed helmer of the latest “Bourne” instalment which opened to rave reviews, who scored an Oscar nomination for his direction of “United 93,” is no doubt a talent to watch. A talent who seems like the perfect fit to take over control from Mr. Spielberg. Neil Miller of Film School Rejects uncovered the following: “Then this evening, out of almost pure chance, I ...
