... missed his Gary Jules-inspired version of Tears For Fears’ “Mad World” thanks to the show running over its 62-minute scheduled running time. (The cutoff seems to have fired up his fanbase, who have landed him in first place on busy-signal tracker DialIdol, and I suspect that there’s no way he is going home tonight, what with Simon Cowell giving him a standing ovation instead of a critique. Lil Wayne: Lil Wayne's Rebirth Pushed Back Again
Published 3/30/2009 at Prefix
Here's one from the "Will this album actually ever come out?" file: Lil Wayne's "rock" album, Rebirth, is being pushed back again, this time to June 16 (a week later than what was reported last week ). The album will be out in 2013 at this current rate of release date switching. Which I guess is better than the alternative . [via Idolator

Prince Premieres "Ol' Skool Company" On Leno
Published 3/26/2009 by Stereogum at Stereogum
... The little man is in Los Angeles to play three shows (all on Saturday) and three nights on Leno (this week) to promote a trilogy of new LPs, which got started with last night's Tonight Show premiere of MPLSoUND 's "Ol' Skool Company." The topical funky cut references bailouts and AIG and isn't the most memorable selection in his miles-deep oeuvre, but watching him cruise through it still makes me want to throw my panties onstage. Enjoy that imagery, enjoy this imagery more: (via Idolator ) Prince's MPLSoUND , Lotusflow3r , and Elixer are out physically this Sunday. ...

Buzznet Figures Out How To Gain From The Recession, Receives $12.5 Million And New Name Everyone knows that there’s a recession going on right now. I’ve heard that word so many times that I’m already sort of pissed at myself for typing it out two seconds ago. If you find yourself in need of money these days, or perhaps a new job opportunity, look no further than blog network giant, Buzznet, which garners more than 40 million visitors each month to sites like Stereogum , Idolator , and Absolute Punk . Focus Ventures, a Palo Alto-based company, has just invested $12.5 million in the ...

New Music: Ghostface Killah: "Message From Ghost" [MP3]
Published 3/6/2009 by Mark Richardson at Pitchfork Media - Today
Ghostface Killah releases a low-key and straight-up track in support of Rihanna (but really, for all his ladies), urging her to stay strong and "protect ya neck." A few lines miss but it sounds like his heart is in the right place. (Nah Right, via Idolator) MP3:> Ghostface Killah: "Message From Ghost"

... leak so big it could have sunk the Titanic, Yeah Yeah Yeahs are coming back a little bit earlier than expected. Remember The Good Old Days With 'Soul!'
Published 2/10/2009 by ill Mami at SOULBOUNCE.COM
Ladies and gentlemen, the mother lode has been released. I am literally tearing myself away from watching Al Green's hour-long performance on Soul!, a PBS production that ran from 1967-1973 on New York's WNET featuring some of the most prominent and best artists of the day--or ever, long enough to write this post. It is quite simply, the best collection of Soul artists, including Ashford & Simpson and Patti LaBelle but also includes Salsa artists Tito Puente and Willie Colón and Jazz artists Max Roach and Ron ...

DON'T SING IT INCORRECTLY
Published 1/26/2009 by Sean at Said the Gramophone
Nneka - "Heartbeat". A wonderful song, but Nneka also sings it wonderfully - makes the chorus's stumbling drums second to her own voice, makes her own verse second to that h-h-h-h-heartbeat. It's a little bit Robyn, a little but Lauryn Hill, but has the full ambitious believing bloom of a singer, a real singer, a pop-star-who-oughta. Fingers crossed that there's more to come (and that this'll be all over my radio). [MySpace / buy / & the video is great; mostly candid footage from Lagos, where Nneka lived until recently] Andrew Bird - "Tenuousness". ...
