Burning Questions About the New Oscar Hosts

By Steve Pond So now the pieces are in place. The Oscar producers have chosen their hosts, Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin. Ricky Gervais can do a killer job at the Golden Globes and wonder if the Academy will take note. Neil Patrick Harris can make a couple of movies and try to burnish his film credentials. Hugh Jackman can take February off, if he wants. And while the choice of Martin and Baldwin has brought near-unanimous praise to Oscar producers Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman, it also raises some questions. So I’m going to ask the questions … and answer them, more or less.

Hugh Jackson and Wife's Date Night at 'Valentino' Event

After the curtain went down on Tuesday's performance of "A Steady Rain" on Broadway, Hugh Jackman and wife Deborah-Lee Furness enjoyed "a half date night" as they celebrated the DVD release of 'Valentino: The Last Emperor,' said the actor. Legendary clothing designer Valentino is known for dressing the stars for the red carpet, but this time he was the star of the carpet. He told ET that he has finally "accepted the success" of his career and film. Originally, he humbly admitted, "You never like when they do something about you and you are always a little scared…thinking it is too much." He reached this epiphany when the documentary was screened at the Toronto Film Festival. He recalled, "They were a really good audience. They were really, absolutely enchanted about the film." 'Valentino: The Last Emperor,' a full length feature which documents the life and career of the creative genius, is now available on DVD and Blu-ray. ...

By Variety While speculation is running high on who’ll host the Oscarcast, it won’t be Hugh Jackman. Jackman, who’s currently starring on Broadway with Daniel Craig in the drama “A Steady Rain,” quietly turned down the job within the past several weeks, sources said.
