Survivor: Samoa: An Unfinished Underdog Story

I love a good underdog story. You know, the sort that does not see the protagonist endure loss after loss after loss, only to start winning after a melodramatic moment with a figure of inspiration, with poetic phrases and life-affirming moments in between. Get the balance right, and I'll definitely root for the underdog, rather than feel worse knowing that the supposed loser will win in the end. But that's just me and my ability to relate everything with myself. There is, of course, an underdog story in Survivor: Samoa , and no, I'm not referring to Foa Foa. Sure, they lost almost every challenge, found themselves in Tribal Council more often than perhaps anybody else--what Jeff described as the worse performance of any tribe in the show's history. Sure, the folks at Galu were kicking them both in the challenges and in Tribal Council. We had the opportunity to speak with future rock superstars, Rival Sons . They are a band definitely worthy of watching. You guys classify your music as pure rock and roll. What does rock and roll mean to you? Scott: Unfortunately, rock & roll has become so convoluted these days ... there's plenty of good bands out there ... just not a lot of what we would classify as rock & roll. if the question is what is a 'technical definition' of rock & roll ? I'd say its the melting of blues, soul, and country, first off. And it's gotta have a little boogie, or make you wanna dance or pump your fist ... and most importantly, it's gotta be DANGEROUS. It was 1986 and I was broke and struggling in a sea of improv Chicago comedians to land a coveted spot at Second City when I got a called to audition to be the official company, "spokes-turtle" for DeMet's Chocolate Turtle candy. The audition involved performing ten minutes of stand-up comedy material that featured DeMet's Chocolate Turtles, It was to take place at Zanies Comedy Club in front of reps for DeMet's and a real live audience. Being an improv guy, I had very little experience with stand-up comedy, but the ten-grand paycheck and the chance to be a spokes-turtle was all the enticement I needed. I came up with material that used my only two impersonations: I bought a hand puppet turtle who sounded suspiciously like Woody Allen and I played guitar and sang a song in the voice and harmonica style of Bob Dylan about the glory and wonder of Chocolate turtles.
