Last year saw the tremendous success of some
book to movie adaptations, among the big winners: There
Will Be Blood (from the book Oil!), Ian McEwan's Atonement and Cormac McCarthy's No Country for Old Men. For this year, we are already excited with some upcoming movies (also based on books)- Philippa Gregory's The Other Boleyn Girl and Steven Gould's Jumper. But there are more, 50 of them!
If the current climate was the same as
1997, Atonement would have taken home the Best Picture
Oscar, and we'd all be begrudging it 10 years from now. As it stands, the real Best Picture won, as No Country For Old Men, got the Coen brothers the Best Picture award they've deserved for over a decade. This is nothing but positives for current cinema.
