And while they didn't have anything to do with it, musical odd couple Jay-Z and Coldplay had their music mashed-up by mixtape vets Mick Boogie and Terry Urban recently on Viva la Hova. Clearly, these artists have a thing going on, and next year they're going to take it to the next level, when Jay joins the English rockers for three stadium dates on their home turf. A spokesperson for Jay-Z confirmed that the rapper will be the special guest at three Coldplay shows in 2009, beginning with a September 12 date at the Lancashire County Cricket Club in Manchester, England. He will also be on hand for a September 16 date at Hampden Park ...

The album debuts to great success! Taylor Swift 's second album, Fearless , debuted at the top of a major music chart Wednesday -- and the country crooner broke a record in the process! Fearless debuted in the No. 1 slot atop Billboard 's Top 200 Albums Chart, with over half a million copies sold in its first week in stores. That marks the largest opening U.S. sales week in 2008 by a female artist in all genres of music, and also goes down as the year's fourth biggest opening sales week overall, trailing only new releases from Lil Wayne, AC/DC and Coldplay. Plus, when her Fearless track "White Horse" debuts at No. 13 on Billboard's all-genre Hot 100 singles chart this week, Taylor will break the record for most Top 20 debuts in a year with six total!

Coldplay Will Split Up Next Year

Coldplay front man Chris Martin says the band will call it quits before they get old and plans to split up the band at the end of 2009. According to the Daily Express , Martin's decision was based on his view that bands should call it a day before they get too old -- saying he wanted to go out with a blast by keeping as busy as possible until 2009 ends. "I'm 31 now and I don't think that bands should keep going past 33," he said. "So, we're trying to pack in as much as possible. Up until the end of next year, we'll just go for it in every sense. I don't believe in time off. We've still got most of our hair, we can still fit into our musical trousers and we've got to make the most of that." We assume that means we should expect some exciting things from the current kings of soft rock in the coming year. While we're not entirely sure what that will consist of, here's hoping it's something closer to the Coldplay we used to like as opposed to the Coldplay our mom's currently like. ...
