[image] As soon as the list of art works requested for display in the White House was released, every political blogger suddenly turned into an art critic, and Watusi by Alma Thomas somehow made it to the center of the storm. In early October, the Wall Street Journal published the list of 45 artworks destined for 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. It included several bronze sculptures by Edgar Degas, eleven paints by American painter George Catlin, a piece by Louise Nevelson, a Rothko, and for the East Wing, Watusi (Hard Edge . The Washington Post and Artnews report this morning that one of the 45 artworks the Obamas selected from a variety of Washington, D.C. museums last month, Alma Thomas' "Watusi (Hard Edge)" (pictured), didn't fit in Michelle Obama's office where it was supposed to hang, and has been sent back to the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.
Many conservative commenters, of course, will construe this as a victory after several attacked the painting for plagiarizing, as they put it, the work of Henri Matisse. I really hope the Obamas choose ...
