Lyrics Quiz: Blog Action Day
Scooter McGavin's 9th Green —
... Supposedly today is Blog Action Day where people are to write about the environment. I really hate these types of events because getting people to do something for one day does not make a habit and in the big picture rare put a dent on whatever they are trying to accomplish. Personally everyday I try to cut down my carbon footprint, I have been using energy efficient products for a couple years now and am pretty diligent to turn thing off at the surge protector when not in use. I haven’t yet converted to an energy efficient car yet on account that I’m poor. Although if Al Gore truly cared about the environment he would use his Nobel Prize money to buy me a Prius. Granted if Al Gore truly cared about the environment, he wouldn’t have flown to the ceremony in a private jet. But anyways. ...
Poverty in Colorado
Lair of the Green Knight —
Hi all…
In June 2008, Governor Ritter and the Colorado Children’s Campaign worked to release a report on the current state of well being of Colorado children.
Quite literally, the information is stunning. I’ve lived in Colorado all but five years of my life and I never would have thought the following was true:
“Poverty is the biggest obstacle to opportunity for children, and between 2000 and 2006, the number of children living in poverty in Colorado increased by 73 percent - the highest increase by far of ...
Poverty and Hollywood…
Lair of the Green Knight —
Hi all…
Until recently, I had never really given poverty much thought. But with Blogger Action Day coming up, it’s made me think about it some.
If you go back as far as the silent movies with Charlie Chaplin, one of his best loved characters was the Tramp. He never had enough to eat and lived in hard times. But many people were facing hard times back then, so it was good to see a character you could identify with and see the humor in things.
Poverty in movies today isn’t quite as easy to see. There are a ...
The Face of Poverty, a Short Film on SnagFilms
Lair of the Green Knight —
Hi all…
To continue the theme of poverty started by the Blogger Action Day movement, I thought I’d feature one of the short documentaries I’ve found on the web about poverty in New York.
The following is the abstract for the film at SnagFilms.
“This short film confronts America’s widening poverty gap through a creative journey along New York City streets, observing the stark contrast between the rich and the poor contained within only a few blocks. People from all walks of life, whether they live on ...

... 1. Blog It Out: When the die is cast on social media and final judgments are made, blogging will reign supreme as the single greatest force in Web 2.0. Whereas social networking is broad and shallow, blogging is deep and focused. That’s the power behind Blog Action Day, which takes place this Wednesday, October 15th, 2008. It’s a day when bloggers the world over draw attention to a single issue and (hopefully) inspire action. This year’s topic is ...

Blog Action Day 2008: Blogs Vs Poverty
Hecklerspray —
... And, as always, where celebrities fail, bloggers are there to clean up the mess. Which explains why today is Blog Action Day, when over 10,000 blogs all take some time to mention poverty in the blind hope that readers will stop looking at videos of cats falling off things for a moment to be preached at by several inert bloggers who haven’t been outside for upwards of six or seven months.
So here goes nothing…

... This post is part of Blog Action Day 08 - Poverty
In honor of Blog Action Day, which is focusing on poverty this year, I’m reviewing “War/Dance,” a thoughtful, heartbreaking, and inspiring film. It made the film festival circuit last year, had a limited theatrical release on Nov. 9, 2007, and hit DVD shelves on April 15, 2008.
The documentary follows several children who’ve been ravaged by the horrors of war. Nancy, 14, is a member of the Acholi tribe and now lives at the Patongo Refugee Camp, which houses a whopping ...

Blog Action Day 2009

Two years ago I promised myself that I would participate in the annual Blog Action Day event. This year marks the first time that it will be hosted by the people from the Change.org website. The event usually takes place around mid-October and here we are on the fifteenth of the month and I am already typing up a new article for the event. This year's topic is about climate change, and I could have sworn I already covered that subject matter a little bit in the first year that I had participated by posting this article about Waterworld ...
Blog Action Day: Is Climate Change / Global Warming Real?
Neatorama —
Today is Blog Action Day, an annual event in which participating bloggers post about a particular issue to raise awareness and trigger global discussion that will – hopefully – bring about positive change. This year’s topic is climate change – which, shall we say, is a wee bit controversial.
We’ll get to some Neatorama-worthy posts on the blog today, but first I’d like to ask YOU what you think about global warming/climate change. Do you believe that it is happening? Or is it just a passing hysteria, much like the concern over global cooling in ...
Blog Action Day for Climate Change, Take Action Here, And Grab A Track From Thao.
extrawack! —
Once a year, the initiative known as Blog Action Day calls on bloggers around the world to post something about a specific concern, all on the same day. This year's topic is climate change. Since my day job involves campaigning and lobbying to convince lawmakers and world leaders to address the effects of climate change, and especially it's effect on the world's poorest people, this one's easy for me... So I'll ask you to take this opportunity to tell President Obama to help poor communities at the Global Climate Summit in Copenhagen this December, by signing this petition from ...
