Gerhardt "Jerry" Fuchs, a prolific drummer for bands including !!! , the Juan MacLean and Maserati , died early Sunday after falling down an elevator shaft in a loft in Williamsburg, Brooklyn Saturday night. Fuchs had reportedly been attending a party hosted by the Uniform Project, which promotes sustainable fashion. Detectives say Fuchs, 34, was trying to climb out of a broken elevator in the building, a converted factory used as residential and commercial space, when a piece of his clothing got caught on something, ABC News reports . ... Police say the man had been trying to jump out of a disabled elevator car when his clothing caught on something.
The man was unconscious and unresponsive when emergency responders brought him to Bellevue Hospital Center. He was pronounced dead at around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, about three hours after the fall in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn.
Police say there’s no suspected criminality, but the Buildings Department is investigating.
