Paramount to Skip Comic-Con?!
Published 6/26/2008 by orfilms@gmail.com (slashfilm.com) at /Film
First (potentially) the actors, and now it looks like Paramount has decided to sit out of this year’s San Diego Comic Con International. A Parmaount spokesman told Anne Thompson that “The timing was off this year.” Most of Paramount’s upcoming geek slate isn’t scheduled to hit theaters until 2009. Paramount might still participate doing some viral stuff, and with a presence on the show floor, but most of their big titles will be M.I.A.
This is a shocking move considering that Paramount/DreamWorks’ huge presence at last year’s con. The Iron Man panel was considered by all to be the highest point of the convention. Even Favreau ...
Con Update: Fox Digs in, Paramount Pulls Out?
Published 6/26/2008 by Erik Davis at Cinematical
... On the other hand, Anne Thompson brings us the unfortunate news that Paramount will not be hosting a panel or bringing any stars to this year's Con. Apparently, a Paramount spokesman told Thompson that "the timing was off this year." Thus, fans will miss out on potential presentations of G.I. Joe, Star Trek, Transformers 2 and The Last Airbender. Sucks. Though you never know ... plans may change and there still could be a surprise or two. Here's hoping we get something, anything, from one of these highly-anticipated films. ...
Paramount Ditches the San Diego Comic-Con This Year!
Published 6/26/2008 by Alex Billington at FirstShowing.net
... As every self-respecting movie geek should know, the San Diego Comic-Con has become the summer highlight for both comic-related and big blockbuster movies. We'll be down in sunny San Diego this July for the third year straight, but unfortunately one studio will be entirely missing from the line-up. Paramount has decide to ditch Comic-Con entirely, citing "timing" and immense expenses without payoff. Variety's Anne Thompson has confirmed that the rumors are true and the studio will only possibly do some viral marketing, but nothing more. This ...
Is Comic-Con Looking Shaky This Year?
Published 6/27/2008 at Cinema Blend News
... actors not only wont be filming on their respective projects, but arent likely to show up and be drooled over by fans and geeks to promote something they arent working on. This one isnt actually killing me completely, because directors, writers, and producers are still likely to show up, strike or not. Suddenly there is some studio buzzkilling going on. You might remember that last year Fox pulled their entire slate of films from SDCC a week before the convention began. Today Varietys Anne Thompson brought out the news that Paramount was planning the same thing this ...
Some Notable Absences at Comic-Con [San Diego Comic-con]
Published 6/27/2008 by Graeme McMillan at io9
... spokesman Mike Vollman just called me to say: "We have a vibrant and exciting schedule of activities planned for Comic-Con." The studio will be unveiling a number of marketing materials on these pics. So, while they may not have a booth as such, apparently you'll still get fliers for all their products. It may not be as fun as a lifesize Iron Man armor, but I guess that it's something...? (Flickr image by Karl Monaghan) Comic-Con Update: Paramount Goes Viral [Variety]
