Oscarbation And 'Crazy Heart'
:: The Playlist :: —
... that, "It’s Bridges time," quoting one of their reporters present who says, referring to Jeff Bridges' character, “Bad Blake is the new Randy the Ram!" Which is to say, "Fox Searchlight can market this just like 'The Wrestler'! Yay!" It's funny how THR marks this as the most important attribute, and not whether this movie is absolutely worth a damn. Kris Tapley at In Contention feels awkward giving his opinion on a film he claims is unfinished , but he has no problem claiming Jeff Bridges' performance, which he was also seeing in an unfinished, not-fully-edited version, would ...

Jeff Bridges Entering The Oscar Race With Crazy Heart
Cinema Blend News —
Jeff Bridges Entering The Oscar Race With Crazy Heart Just when it was looking like Fox Searchlight wouldn't be a major part of the Oscar season at all, in comes The Dude to save them. The studio has decided to release the Jeff Bridges vehicle Crazy Heart on December 16, just a few days after screening it for a handful of journalists in Los Angeles, almost all of whom immediately declared Bridges' role "this year's Oscar-winning lead actor turn." Below is the press release that Fox sent out yesterday, which tells you everything you need to know about the movie that's being ...

Oscar Eye: Predicting The Winners Following Precious's Giant Success
Cinema Blend News —
... and only a mild backlash at this point, Precious is now the frontrunner by far-- but as both Brokeback and Dreamgirls can attest, being the early frontrunner can backfire miserably as well. The other big news for the race itself in the last week came with Fox Searchlight's decision to give Crazy Heart , a Jeff Bridges vehicle described as "the country music The Wrestler ," a December release date. Some pundits like Kris Tapley are already convinced that Bridges has what it takes to finally win a Best Actor statue, while Maggie Gyllenhaal, who plays Bridges' love ...

... four months out and the prediction game is getting underway and some are even predicting the winners already. I just sent in my first batch of predictions to Tom O'Neil and gang at the Los Angeles Times's Envelope and I have updated my own personal batch of predictions accordingly and have linked them below.

... ranks. Gyllenhaal has been close in the past. Certainly she was deemed worthy by some for her work in “Secretary” and “Sherrybaby.” And if brother Jake gets a supporting notice for Jim Sheridan’s “Brothers,” and/or husband Peter Sarsgaard gets a notice for “An Education,” the Oscars could be a family affair for the actress this season.

Bad-Ass Bridges
Hollywood Elsewhere —
Bad-Ass Bridges Late this morning I saw Scott Cooper 's Crazy Heart (Fox Searchlight, early December) and yeah, Kris Tapley was right -- Jeff Bridges is definitely in the Best Actor derby for his performance as a grizzled, pot-bellied, booze-swilling, cigarette-sucking ex-country music legend on the downswirl who just manages to save himself from self-destruction. It's an honestly scuzzy performance -- Bridges' best since The Big Lebowski but tonally opposite and much harder hitting, of course. It's the same kind of "look how gross and dessicated I can be" performance ...
Check This Out: Official Poster for Jeff Bridges' Crazy Heart
FirstShowing.net —
... . The trailer hits on Monday, but I thought I'd feature this anyway. If you haven't heard yet, Crazy Heart is the latest Oscar contender, and it already has a lot of support. Jeff Bridges plays a broken-down, hard-living country music singer in a kind of Wrestler-like story. Apparently it's a "performance of a lifetime" from Bridges with critics like Kris Tapley of In Contention and ...
