John McCain appeared on David Letterman last night, apologizing for dissing the late night television host last month. McCain humbled himself immediately, saying: “I screwed up, what can I say?” Trying to lighten the mood he went on to offer up: “Look at all the conversation I gave you.”
Letterman got much mileage out of McCain’s last minute cancelation. He reveled in the discovery that the candidate was down the street sitting for an interview with Katie Couric.

The Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner was a rousing success last night thanks to the funny one liners of Barack Obama and John McCain. The formal white tie affair is a fundraiser for Catholic Charities. Last years event amassed $3.8 million.
The candidates poked fun at themselves and each other with self deprecating humor. It was a break from political attacks and talk of the bad economy. Instead of political punches, the pair exchanged punchlines.

Beth McDonough, 40, crime reporter for KMSP FOX 9 News in Minneapolis was arrested early Saturday morning in Minnetonka for probable cause second degree drunken driving. Her second arrest in 15 months, McDonough was already serving a four year probation sentence for gross misdemeanor drunken driving in August 2007.
According to Minnesota State Patrol spokesman Mark Peterson, she was booked in Hennepin County and posted a $12,000 bond at the time of her release on Saturday afternoon. McDonough apparently had a property damage crash in Golden Valley before police stopped her in Minnetonka. ...
