Disney Deboarding McG’s 20,000 Leagues
Film School Rejects —
With the exit of Disney studio chief Dick Cook, a few projects that were once on the fast track would ultimately be left behind in the wake of change. Enter the first victim, the McG directed Captain Nemo: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Even though it was on the fast track to production (and shooting in February) and had big names like Will Smith circling the wagons, the project is now dead, according to Variety.
Even though this was intended to be a major tentpole, Disney is still saying that it is still placing a priority on making event pics. Which makes sense, as those make a lot of money. Films such ...
McG Pulls Out Of 20,000 Leagues Remake
SFX —
[image] Production has halted on Disney’s remake of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, and director McG (Terminator Salvation) has confirmed that he is no longer attached to the project. The film was to have begun production in February 2010, but appears to be the first casualty of a regime change at Disney which recently installed a new boss, Rich Ross. 20,000 Leagues was put on fast track under the studio’s old boss, Dick Cook. But according to Variety , “event pics like 20,000 Leagues, John Carter Of Mars and Tron are still priority under new chief Rich Ross.” Will Smith had been ...
"Nemo" Canned, Marshall Helms "Pirates"
Dark Horizons - General Feed —
"Captain Nemo: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea", Disney's latest adaptation of the Jules Verne classic, has been cancelled reports Variety.
The project, which aimed to begin shooting in February, has been indefinitely postponed and director McG has withdrawn from the project.
No cast was ever set despite rumors of Will Smith's involvement, but the change of the studio's chairman from Dick Cook to Rich Ross has de-prioritised this and quite likely several other properties in development as so many Hollywood regime changes do.
For now the studio's priority on water-based films is the fourth "Pirates of the Caribbean" which aims to ...

It looks like Walt Disney Pictures is steering 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea away from actual production as they announced not only is it on a halt but director McG jumped ship too. Here’s information on this latest development from Variety:

Disney Sinks CAPTAIN NEMO
We Are Movie Geeks —
First TERMINATOR 5 gets its head put on the chopping block, and, now, it looks like CAPTAIN NEMO: 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA is getting scuttled indefinitely. It’s not been a good couple of months for McG who was set to begin production on the Disney remake in February. Disney has announced today, and Variety has reported, that production on the film has halted completely. McG has also been pushed aside as the film’s director if and when it ever does get back on track.
This is the first of the films former Disney head Dick Cook announced that has had its plug pulled. Expect more to come as new chief, Rich Ross, ...
