Variety also points out that "Jane Eyre" is one of the most oft-adapted novels in English literature, with between twenty and thirty films or television series since 1910. The BBC made a television version as ...

Published 5/7/2008 by Karina Longworth at SpoutBlog
Lionsgate has moved up the release of Frank Miller’s The Spirit, from January 2009 to Christmas Day. It’s a huge, and not entirely explicable, show of confidence for the comic book movie, which will now compete against family holiday films and Oscar bait instead of having a January graveyard weekend to itself. Ellen Page will prove her range by strapping on a corset to play the title role in a BBC Films adaptation of Jane Eyre. Sony Classics has acquired Atom Egoyan’s Adoration, which will premiere in competition later this month at Cannes. The film ...

Page Turner: Ellen Page Goes Literary With Jane Eyre
Published 5/7/2008 by Kirsten Anderson at At The Movies - Film News and Reviews
Ellen Page, get ready to enter the horror show that is early Victorian fashion. Variety is reporting that Ellen Page is set to star in a BBC Films adaptation of the Charlotte Bronte novel Jane Eyre. Alison Owen is producing for Ruby Films. Moira Buffini wrote the screenplay. No director is set yet. Jane Eyre is a much easier to handle novel than sister Emily’s thorny Wuthering Heights (which is again about to go into production, this time with Natalie Portman). It’s one of the standard-bearers for gothic romance, with its story of Jane Eyre a poor but tough-minded ...

Ellen Page, star of Juno and Smart People, not to mention the upcoming Whip It, is looking to prove her acting credentials through appearing as one of the most kickass female literary icons, Jane Eyre. She does know she’s already convinced most of the globe that she’s more than able for anything, right? Page could completely handle the character’s passion, being the regular little spitfire that she is, and Smart People has proven she can play repressed and wound up to a tee, a pre-requisite for any British governess. For those who didn’t read Charlotte Bronte’s classic ...

Discuss: Can You See Ellen Page as Jane Eyre?
Published 5/8/2008 by Kim Voynar at Cinematical
Filed under: Casting, Deals Hmmm ... well, file this one under "this could be an interesting casting decision." Variety reported yesterday that Ellen Page, who's been one of my favorite young actresses since I saw her in Hard Candy, has signed on to play one of classic literature's greatest (and most adapted) heroines, Jane Eyre, in an adaptation for BBC. On the one hand, I can see Page physically in the role -- she looks very like the waif-like Jane in the ancient hardcover edition of the book I inherited from my great-grandmother, all narrow-faced and doe-eyed.
