Yet another AbFab remake on the way
Published 10/7/2008 by Brad Trechak at TV Squad
Filed under: Industry, Programming, Pickups and Renewals, Reality-Free The brain behind Arrested Development is now developing an Absolutely Fabulous remake for Fox. For those unaware, the British series is about an immature, hippie-era mother, her best friend and her intelligent daughter (played respectively by creator Jennifer Saunders, Joanna Lumley and Julia Sawalha).
In the height of her popularity, Roseanne tried to remake the show and involved the creators and co-stars. Sadly, that didn't come to pass. Whatever you think of Roseanne, at least she was smart enough to involve the ...
Fox Is Remaking Absolutely Fabulous For America
Published 10/7/2008 at Videogum
... After the success of The Office, these things could go either way, but it seems a little late to be making an American version of Ab Fab, especially since they've tried it before (though without Jennifer Saunders), and as hard as it is to accept, the original has been so over-imitated already that it's lost most of its shock value. These things happen. ...

The latest attempt at a U.S. rendition of "Ab Fab" will be transplanted to L.A. but retain the basic template of the original, revolving around the friendship of two boozy, over-40 best friends who are desperate to stay hip and youthful and who carry on under the disapproving eye of Edina's teenage daughter, Saffy. Stick The Knife In Deeper
Published 10/7/2008 by Michael K at Dlisted - Be Very Afraid
In 1995, there was this show called " High Society " that starred Jean Smart and Mary McDonnell as a couple of rich Manhattan socialites. I was excited for this crap because it was unofficially called the American " Absolutely Fabulous. " There was nothing fabulous about it. It was like AbFab on life support. Awful. Obviously, the dumb fucks in Hollywood didn't learn from " High Society's " failure, because they are planning another American version of AbFab. Aim for the wastebasket when you barf. Variety ...

Fox to Remake Absolutely Fabulous for the US
Published 10/7/2008 by BuzzSugar at BuzzSugar -- Entertainment hourly.
I imagine Edina and Patsy would have a few choice words to say about this.
Fox is looking to remake the British comedy Absolutely Fabulous. This new version of the comedy would be set in LA but attempt to retain the essential flavor of "the friendship of two boozy, over-40 best friends who are desperate to stay hip and youthful."
But . . . why?
Alas, that may be the question with no answer. It's not the first attempt at an Ab Fab remake, though: Oddly, Roseanne once wanted to do a remake with Carrie Fisher in one of the lead roles. And if you remember the 1995 CBS sitcom High Society (I ...

Fox will attempt to be Absolutely Fabulous in Los Angeles
Published 10/8/2008 by Ceilidh at Cele|bitchy
In the 90’s Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley went where no other sitcom had gone, and none have successfully gone since; into the stunted social lives of two 40-something, substance abusing best friends desperately clinging to youth and trendy irresponsibility. It was classic. More than 10 years later, Absolutely Fabulous remains a staple on BBC America, and now Fox will attempt to bring Edina and Patsy stateside.

Wholly and Absolutely Not Fabulous
Published 10/8/2008 at MSN TV Blog
It looks like Fox wants to take yet another ill advised bite at the comedy apple (remember "Cavemen"?) by, oh dear, adapting British comedy "Absolutely Fabulous" for American audiences. This is such a bad idea. Here's why: 1. "Ab Fab" was never that funny anyway. Edwina, Patsy and Saffron were flat, flat, flat. 2. "Ab Fab" already aired for like 84 years (or it felt that long) on Comedy Central. 3. "Ab Fab" is a dark comedy, like the first couple episodes of "Sex and the City." Psssst, Fox, stick to your strengths. Anybody think I'm wrong? ...
