Rounding the bend toward 2010, what better time to look back at some of the most entertaining, weird, funny and just plain memorable moments from the first 10 years of the 2000s? Our “Best of the ’00s” series will showcase some of the highlights, and lowlights so far this century.
Whether you prefer to watch his antics on the
big or small screen, it's safe to say Will Ferrell is a comic genius. Constantly creating new characters (and hairdos) putting together funny Ferrell clips isn't the hard part, it's narrowing them down. We took on the task and chose what we think are 10 standouts from the past 10 years. Your favorite missing from this list? Share it as a comment below.
10. Lance Armstrong song at ESPY Awards (2006): Will has presented (and sung) at several award shows, but this one, when he serenaded Lance and brought him together with “his dad” was worthy of this list. Only Ferrell could deliver a whacky performance like this.
9. "Man vs. Wild" (Discovery - 2009): Even when it seems like he’s trying not to be funny, he still is. While promoting "Land of the Lost" Ferrell joined Bear Grylls in an episode of "Man vs. Wild" for a snowy backcountry adventure. It's obvious he's a comedian to his core watching him pretend to do "real life" stuff on this show.
8. Celebrity Jeopardy ("Saturday Night Live" - 2009): Ferrell’s Trebek vs. Darrell Hammond’s Sean Connery verbally battling it out on Jeopardy is a hilarious recurring character banter we've seen multiple times during the past 10 years. It's a skit that never gets old. This particular clip from May of this year is my favorite with Tom Hanks playing slow version of himself and "Burt Reynolds" randomly popping in.
7. Streaking (“Old School” - 2003): We all know Ferrell loves to show off his birthday suit, but his most memorable nude moment has to be in "Old School." This scene, where Frank shows Snoop his goods then gets caught by his wife running nude down main street is untouchable...literally.
6. Dart in your neck (“Old School” - 2003): While there are numerous other gems throughout this film, my personal second favorite is Ferrell's Frank shooting himself in the neck while Sean William Scott watches. This classic scene produced the famous quote: “I like you, but you’re crazy.”
5. “The Landlord” (Funny or Die - 2008): If you haven't seen this video you're not a Ferrell fan. Sorry, it has to be said. What's funny about this isn't just the adorable toddler cursing Ferrell out for being a deadbeat rentor, but the back story that the comedian pulled together this classic in 45 minutes during his son's birthday party.
4. Let’s Give Them Something To Talk About (“Step Brothers” - 2008): The combo of John C. Reilly and Ferrell together are what make this movie hilarious. It’s tough to choose a Ferrell scene to isolate as a stand out, but this clip of him singing never fails to make me laugh.
3. “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” (2004): Maybe it's not fair to throw this entire film in with these other moments, but the pure ridiculousness of the movie just begs to be mentioned as a whole. Ron Burgundy is kind of a big deal. Plus his hair and mustache are fantastic.
2. George W. Bush (2005): If Ferrell had to choose his favorite role during the past 10 years I'd bet he'd choose Bush. The former president was great fodder for Ferrell and this bit is one of his most memorable performances as the comander-in-chief.
1. More Cowbell” (SNL – 2000): This spoof of Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear The Reaper" barely squeaked under the time table but thank goodness because it’s definitely and indisputably one of Ferrell’s funniest moments. Christopher Walken’s stand out performance as record producer Bruce Dickinson is priceless, but Ferrell’ voraciousness on the cowbell along with his wild mane and ill-fitting outfit are what make it the funniest Ferrell moment. That and “more cowbell.”
