Short takes: 'Half-Blood Prince' delayed!
Published 8/15/2008 by Franck Tabouring at The Screening Log
• Variety reports Warner Bros. has pushed back the release of David Yates' "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" to July 17, 2009 (hey, that's my birthday). The sixth installment in the popular series was originally scheduled to hit Nov. 21, 2008. What a big disappointment. • David Duchovny and Tea Leoni are set to produce CBS Films' "Born to Rock," a comedy pitch about a gang of aging rockers who suddenly find success as a children's band after a mix-up in their demo tape catches the attention of a producer. Good news! With a July release date, you kids won’t have to huddle around a fire to keep warm.
Did you have Thanksgiving plans that included a visit to the local multiplex to see Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince? If so, sorry! Supposedly Warner Brothers felt that post-writers strike, its summer schedule was looking a little thin, with no blockbusters outside of Terminator ...

So, instead of just manning-up and taking a little less money than they would normally, they’ve decided to hold onto their cash cow for another eight months. EIGHT MONTHS? Christ, you could get pregnant and have the baby and name him Harry in the time we’ve got wait now. ...

[image] Everyone has been more or less stoked about the upcoming release of the already completed “Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince,” because not only is it one of the best books of the series, the trailer looks absolutely glorious. Well, those of us who had already been anticipating it’s 11 November ’08 release were given an unpleasant surprise when Warner Bros. decided to move the film to a 17 July ’09 release – almost a year from now. Alan Horn, head of the struggling WB (in terms of selling off some of the acquired films) which apparently has a lack of summer tentpoles, said: “Like every other studio, we are still feeling ...
