... to two directors: They like Neill Blompkamp (District 9), who has the right vision, but the frontrunner, at the moment, is Neil Marshall (The Descent), who was sent the script early this month. However, despite the enthusiasm of producer, Kevin Misher (Public Enemies), the studio is somewhat tepid on Marshall, uncertain about handing over a $175 million film with franchise potential to a somewhat unknown director whose only hit was the modestly successful The Descent. DUNE to be remade without Peter Berg?

... along with the BATTLESHIP-themed film we heard about back in September. His IMDb page also lists a bevy of other in-development projects, including LONE SURVIVOR and COCAINE COWBOYS. Berg’s biggest directorial hit so far has been HANCOCK, but his resume also includes interesting work like THE KINGDOM and FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS. And finally, no matter how crazy and ridiculous Marshall's cult gem Doomsday got, it still wasn't Hitch. [Via Cinematical]
