Johnny Depp Probably Playing Mad Hatter
I Watch Stuff - The Best Movie News Ever —
... tale.
A source said: "Tim has had designs on 'Alice in Wonderland' since before he was famous.
Normally I wouldn't put much stock into a gossip columns, but this seems so obvious it probably has to be true, and unnamed "sources" never lie.
IMDB should really just add a permanent addendum to Depp's listing: "Also, he'll probably be in a Tim Burton movie playing an undetermined gothic character." And while you're at it, IMDB, stop treating chimps like actors.

Rumor: Is Johnny Depp The Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s Wonderland?
/Film —
CelebEdge is reporting a rumor that Johnny Depp will be re-teaming with Tim Burton (duh) to play The Mad Hatter in Burton’s upcoming hybrid adaptation of Alice in Wonderland. Rumors have surrounded the project since it was first announced. At one point some reports were claiming that Depp was actually going to play Alice, as the film is supposed to incorporate performance capture. Thankfully that rumor didn’t end up being true, as In Treatment star Mia Wasikowska was announced for the part. So who knows, this could be true, or just another rumor. My guess is that Depp will be involved in the production in some capacity, and the Mad Hatter seems like the perfect fit. ...

Obvious News: Burton Casts Depp as Mad Hatter [Casting Couch]
Film School Rejects —
When we heard the first casting news out of Tim Burton’s mouth for his Alice in Wonderland adaptation - that he’d found a girl he wanted to go through the looking glass with - we knew that the obvious news of Johnny Depp being cast as every other character would soon follow.
To our surprise, though, Depp has only been cast in one role. Despite the rumors that he could have been cast in the title role, Depp is going to be donning the extra-enormous hat and psychopathy to play The Mad Hatter - a role that also qualifies him to be in the next Batman film.
The even-cooler news that I’ve tricked you into reading by including it in this post, is that Depp is going to get a second chance to make The Man Who Killed Don ...

If I knew that, all my films would have been successful.”
Speaking of indie golden boys, ...

Well, what do you know: rumor has it that Johnny Depp is going to be the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. Never saw that one coming. Let's see, will he have Kabuki-white face makeup and speak in a slightly feminine voice? And, with an unknown cast as Alice, will Helena Bonham Carter be the Queen of Hearts? In more Depp rumors: Johnny as the Riddler in the next Batman movie? And joined by Angelina Jolie as Catwoman and/or Philip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin? Well, if it's on the internet, it's all got to be true, right? ...
