The Maggie May hitmaker is desperate to record country classics for a new LP, but his decision was reportedly blocked by executives at his label J Records after music fans panned the idea.

I don't blame him for not wanting to do a Christmas album. If the legendary rocker wants to do some country songs, why not just let him do it? He has enough fans to sell to who'll probably buy anything he makes. Source
