Miramax president, Daniel Battsek, out
gordonandthewhale.com —
... FOR OLD MEN, and THE QUEEN.
Battsek became president of Miramax in 2005, when he was chosen by Disney to take over after Harvey and Bob Weinstein vacated their position as chairmen (after selling the company to Disney in 1993). Currently, it is unknown if Battsek’s position will be replaced, but with the current downsizing, it’s reasonable to believe that the job may be shifted on to the plate of another Disney exec to save money in the face of said downsizing.

The state of things was made clear today with the announcement that Miramax President Daniel Battsek would be stepping down. Miramax president steps down
Other Crap —
Miramax president steps down as Disney becomes the latest studio to back away from the specialty film business. This more or less rings the death knell for once hallowed Miramax. Disney plans to eliminate about 50 jobs at Miramax this year, leaving only about 20 employees. New Line, Paramount Vantage, and Focus have all been shuttered, and The Weinstein company is in serious panic mode, thus leaving Fox Searchlight and Sony Classics as the only vestiges of the studios' indie vogue from the 90s. ...

... While Miramax wasn’t truly indie since Disney bought into it in 1993,the company the Weinsteins built into the most recognizable face of ‘indie’ film remained a player post-Weinstein. Gone Baby Gone, No Country For Old Men, The Queen, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly: all Miramax. Now THR reports that Battsek is exiting and that only about 20 jobs will remain. This all comes after a rough year for the company: Adventureland, Extract, Cheri and The Boys Are Back were all underperformers. ...

... reducing their release schedule to 3 pictures per year. Miramax has been dying a very slow death since the Weinsteins left to head The Weinstein Company. TWC has barely kept itself afloat with Inglorious Basterds all but saving the studio and keeping it in the black for Oscar season. Miramax hasn’t been doing so well this year with Adventureland, The Boys Are Back and Extract all underperforming. Now, what seems to be the death knell has sounded: Miramax Films president Daniel ...

Miramax President Leaves Amid Massive Layoffs
getthebigpicture.net 10/31/2009 — Disney shrunk Miramax at the beginning of October, getting rid of about 75% of the work force.
