Variety is reporting that Daniel Battsek is stepping down as president of Miramax. His departure follows the recent announcement that Disney (which owns Miramax) would be significantly downsizing the specialty division. Variety quoted Walt Disney Studios chairman Rich Ross saying in a statement, “With the change in direction at Miramax, we appreciate Daniel’s desire to leave the organization. During his 18 years of service, he has brought some very prestigious and award-winning films to the studio, from Calendar Girls to The Queen to No Country for Old Men . We wish Daniel the very best on his future endeavors.”
