The Horror…The Horror: MTV to Remake Rocky Horror
Published 7/24/2008 by Kirsten Anderson at At The Movies - Film News and Reviews
Can anyone fill Tim Curry’s corset?  (This is sort of film/television news but whatever, we’ll include it here.) Variety reports that MTV is planning on remaking cult classic Rocky Horror Picture Show. Sigh. (struggling to go on…struggling to go on…) The network is planning on using the original screenplay (which, btw, is based on the stage musical) but may add songs. They’re hoping for a Halloween 2009 television premiere, but that’s not definite. No cast has been announced, which means there’s plenty of time for rumors to fly. Undoubtedly some will ...

Let's Do The Time Warp Again (Again)!!

Merrick here... Because the original film's influence on pop culture wasn't significant enough...MTV is prepping a remake of THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW. Two-hour remake will use the original screenplay by Jim Sharman and Richard O'Brien but may also include music not featured in the original. ...says THIS ARTICLE in Variety. If I'm correctly interpreting the somewhat imprecise wording of the Variety piece, this will be broadcast on TV here in The States & distributed theatrically overseas (I think). I just slid off of some post root canal pain killer...this news is compelling me to hop back on.

Rocky Horror Picture Show to be remade

It's a cracking film, really, and a lot of fun. So the news of the remake has saddened me to the core. Even the creator Richard O'Brien and the Director Jim Sharman couldn't achieve the success when they tried a sequel(ish) called Shock Treatment . Variety through Coming Soon reports that MTV are behind a remake with an original ...

MTV is about to commit first-degree murder by remaking the cult classic " Rocky Horror Picture Show. " That's our cue to go back to bed. This is obviously a bad nightmare and we must wake up. The ugly and mean whores at MTV said they will use the original screenplay, but may add new music. GOD NO! They are aiming for a Halloween 2009 release. So, it's official. October 31, 2009 is the day we all spontaneously combust. Casting has not yet been announced. Dammit, Janet! Fuck, I can already see who MTV is going to cast in this shit: Pete Wentz as Dr. Frank-N-Furter Ashlee Simpson as Janet Weiss Zac Efron as Brad Majors MTV star Tila Tequila as Magenta MTV ...

It may be "just a jump to your left/ Then a step to your right," but I can't help but think that this might be a giant step to the back. That's right, news surfaced today that a The Rocky Horror Picture Show remake is in the works. The MTV network is partnering with Lou Adler, who produced the 1975 film, for a remake that will feature the original screenplay of Jim Sharman and Richard O'Brien, with the possibility of a new song or two. As someone who is a big fan of the original film and the stage production (yes, I saw Luke Perry as Brad!) this news makes me a little sad, especially as it's coming ...

Cult Classic To Be Given The MTV Treatment [In Development]
Published 7/25/2008 by Josh Radde at Film School Rejects
Any weekend in this country you can travel to specific movie theaters in roughly every state and see a grown man wearing a dominatrix outfit. He will be sporting ruby red lipstick and be standing next to a man that will probably be dressed similarly. Both these men will respond to the name Frank-N-Furter, as someone passing by asking for a picture. Every weekend in this country people revisit Jim Sharman’s 1975 classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show at midnight. This has happened since the ’70s and will thrive will beyond the 00’s. MTV, in their infinite wisdom, has decided to ...

Early buzz: 'Sonja,' 'Tron,' Con plans and more
Published 7/25/2008 by Whitney Matheson at USATODAY.com - Pop Candy
Hello, all! I'm posting this pretty late Thursday night, but I want to have it up early for the East Coast folks since I'm working on California time for the next few days. My first day of Comic-Con was a success -- I saw a few panels, met several Pop Candy readers and snapped some photos. On Friday my schedule includes the big Watchmen panel, and I may duck into the Joss Whedon panel as well. Friday night consists of the Eisner Awards (the Oscars of comics!), though this year I can relax because I'm not presenting anything onstage. Before I hit the sack, here's an abbreviated Early Buzz. I'll be back tomorrow morning with a few more photos and stories: - ...

With a jump to the left and a step to the right, MTV has announced they are remaking the movie that defines the terms "cult film", "audience participation" and "midnight movie classic", The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Original RHPS producer Lou Adler is heading up the remake, which will use the original story and score by Richard O'Brien, plus possibly a few songs from the original stage production ("Superheroes", "Once in a While") that were cut from the final 1975 movie. No director has been attached as of yet. As expected, die-hard Rocky fans are up in ...

These days, Frank N Furter would just get married to Rocky, settle down, and move to the suburbs. The characters we love in Rocky Horror, and that audiences talk back to in cities across the world, cannot be "updated." Repo! The Genetic Opera
Published 7/28/2008 by Scaramouch at YesButNoButYes Stories
There's been some talk over the last few weeks of a remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. As a big RH fan, my question was: what on earth for? Like it or loathe it, I'm not sure the original could be improved in any way with a remake. That's kind of like threatening to remake The Sound Of Music with Rhiannon. But if you're looking for an updated camp gothic horror musical, it seems you may be rewarded much sooner by Repo! The Genetic Opera, clip embedded above. As I started to watch this, and knowing that I was about to see Paris Hilton vamp it up in gothic underwear, I so ...
