Filed under: Classics, Drama, Horror, Independent, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Thrillers, Deals, Celebrities and Controversy, NewsstandIt sounds like a prank. We would all like it to be one. But it seems to be legit. The story comes from Screen Daily, who reports that S. Darko is being shopped around, with Fox already picking up the North American distribution rights. Touted as the sequel to the 2001 cult hit, the story picks up seven years after Donnie Darko left off. The youngest Darko, Samantha, is now 18 and abandoning her commitment to Sparkle Motion. She heads to ...

Oh, how I wish that was a typo. Check your calendar, it’s not April Fools Day either. Screen Daily has reported that UK-based sales company Velvet Octopus will be launching sales in Cannes for S. Darko, billed as the sequel to the 2001 cult hit Donnie Darko. Fox has already taken North American rights. Chris Fisher (who?) will be directing the film. Fisher said in a statement: “I am a great admirer of Richard Kelly’s film and hope to create a similar world of blurred fantasy and reality.” Producers have spoken to Richard Kelly about the project but he is not involved in any official capacity at this ...
Donnie Darko Sequel Begins Shooting May 18th… Wait, What?

I’m a huge fan of Donnie Darko. Richard Kelly’s debut film is not only one of my favorite films of 2001, but it’s probably somewhere on my list of favorite films of all time. So when I learned this morning that a sequel was being made, I seriously began to doubt my commitment to sparkle motion. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not anti sequel at all. I’ll be happy to see Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and enjoyed watching Live Free or Die Hard. If the original people are involved, and it doesn’t suck as a movie (forget about comparisons to the original) then I’m in. But that’s where the sequel to Donnie Darko goes wrong. ...
Satan's Bloodthirsty Minions Prepare to Sell 'Donnie Darko' Sequel at Cannes [The End Of Ideas]

... A particularly virile, voracious flock of vultures is apparently en route to Cannes, where next week we're told they plan to pre-sell territories to a sequel to Richard Kelly's revelatory 2001 cult classic Donnie Darko. Leading the charge are the sick, sick fuckers at Velvet Octopus, a UK-based sales agency/Faustian hellhole where ideas go to be tortured, mutilated, disemboweled and beheaded in return for an advance against foreign box office. ...

ScreenDaily is reporting that Velvet Octopuss is set to begin production on S. Darko a sequel to the cult-hit Donnie Darko without the cooperation of the original film's writer/director Richard Kelly. To start off with, Donnie Darko was stupid. It was trying to be this big message movie with tons of metaphors and the "this" and the "that" and it just didn't work. Oh boy, a guy in a bunny suit. Gimme a break. The mere thought of a sequel is stupid. Why make a sequel to a film that only found its legs on DVD when it's director's cut release could only manage $753,147? I ...

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I was out most of the day catching up on some end of the week errands and I return to the computer to find the email inbox flooded with readers sending links to Screen Daily who have a story up about a sales company called Velvet Octopus who will be shopping a sequel to DONNIE DARKO at Cannes. It will be called S. DARKO and follow Donnie Darko's little sister (Daviegh Chase will come back to play Samantha Darko) who is now an 18 year old on a road trip with her best friend, headed for Los Angeles... of course she starts having visions and we get going all over again. The more distance I get from Richard Kelly's DONNIE DARKO, ...

Would You Go See a Donnie Darko Sequel?
Published 6 days ago by BuzzSugar at BuzzSugar -- Entertainment hourly.
There's a crazy bit of news floating around today that the 2001 cult classic, Donnie Darko might get a sequel. According to one story, this new film would pick up "seven years after the first film (and Donnie's death) when little sister Samantha Darko and her best friend Corey are now 18 and on a roadtrip to Los Angeles when they are plagued by bizarre visions."
Daveigh Chase, who originally played Donnie's sister is on board and but that's about it from the original Darko team.
The first film earned a devoted following due to writer-director Richard Kelly's knack for eerie, strange storytelling. Dorm room ...

'Donnie Darko': The sequel?
Published 4 days ago by Whitney Matheson at USATODAY.com - Pop Candy
I'm trying to pretend I haven't heard about S. Darko , the sequel to Donnie Darko that begins shooting May 18. While the two movies may share the Darko name and one star -- Daviegh Chase , the actress who played young Samantha Darko in the original -- director Richard Kelly is "not involved in any official capacity." The film takes place seven years after the original and focuses on Chase's character, now 18 and on a creepy road trip. Perhaps the most disturbing/telling quote about the movie comes from a spokesman at UK-based sales company Velvet Octopus: "Donnie's not in (the new film) but there are meteorites and rabbits." Oh, dear. Feel free to ...

Two things writer/director Richard Kelly (Donnie Darko, Southland Tales) wants you to know:
1. He has nothing to do with that Donnie Darko sequel people have been talking about.
2. He is currently editing his new movie The Box, a thriller starring Cameron

honoring us with being the first filmmakers they've ever scored a film with."
One thing Kelly doesn't want you to know:
1. Who that band is.
