Gwyneth Paltrow has agreed to join the cast of The Danish Girl, which Thomas Alfredson is directing. Nicole Kidman has been attached for a while to the tale of Einar Wegener, who became the world's first post-operative transsexual, and Greta, the wife who supported him. Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow is set to join Nicole Kidman in "The Danish Girl," Tomas Alfredson's drama from a script by Lucinda Coxon, who adapted David Ebershoff’s novel.
Based on a true story, the film focuses on Einar and Greta Wegener, two Danish artists whose marriage drastically changed when Einar became the first postoperative transsexual.
Kidman is Einar, and Paltrow plays Greta, according to Variety. Charlize Theron ("The Burning Plain") was once attached to that role, but she dropped out.
