... that the film is a "triumph," but a "modestly scaled" one. The error is forgivable. Van Sant himself has made much of the fact that the script was written in two days and clocked in at 56 pages; the novel is not exactly instilled with literary gravitas. The casting was largely done over MySpace . So Paranoid may feel like a small film in a way, but this patronizing judgment is as great a disservice to the film as anything imaginable.
