Gervais Blogs, Giggles About 'This Side of the Truth'
I Watch Stuff - The Best Movie News Ever —
The usually funny (if not self-indulgent) Ricky Gervais has started a video blog covering the production of This Side of the Truth, his upcoming comedy about the first man to lie in a world where no one has. Only three are up so far, and, typical of Gervais's home videos, they mostly focus on his shrill laughter and ridiculing his underlings. Still, it might be worthwhile if you're a fan of Gervais, and at least he doesn't call it a "vlog".

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here. Ricky Gervais makes me laugh till I cry. And that’s not me exaggerating, either. Just now, as I was checking out the first of what I hope will be many blog entries regarding THIS SIDE OF THE TRUTH, I was listening to Gervais, Stephen Merchant, and Karl Pilkington, and I laughed so hard I had to turn it off to give myself a chance to recover. I love the script for THIS SIDE OF THE TRUTH, and what I read was still a fairly early draft, so I hope that the finished product is something special. It’s got a great concept, and it’s not just dumb comedy. There’s a point to this satire, and I’m curious to ...

Filed under: Comedy, Movie MarketingSince Ricky Gervais has always been a chatty sort, it should come as no surprise that for his directorial debut, This Side of the Truth, the film would come hand in hand with its very own blog. Gervais is directing alongside Matthew Robinson (they also wrote the film) and the story is set in a future where no one lies -- heck, they don't even know how. Gervais reportedly plays a history professor who 'invents' the art of deception. At first, he only uses his new found skill to liven up his lectures, but he then turns to the ...

The Office Star Mocks Your Tiny Local Paper [Dead Trees]
Gawker —
Ricky Gervais, star of the original British version of deadpan TV comedy the Office, just started a personal blog and has already resorted to that old blogger standby, local media criticism. But Gervais' video sendup of the Lowell, Mass. Sun is, as you'd expect, far more entertaining than the local press commentary most internet cranks churn out. The comedian's short skit is delivered in the deceptively gentle tones of Gervais' Office character and mocks the character's own pomposity. At the same time, it nails the defining pitfalls of community journalism -- the typos, excessive ...
Ricky Gervais' This Side of the Truth's Cast Grows
FirstShowing.net —
Late last year we brought you news of Rickey Gervais' upcoming foray into big Hollywood with his project This Side of the Truth. Since then, the funny Brit has amassed a pretty respectable cast including Jennifer Garner, Robe Lowe, Jonah Hill and Louis C.K. Today, we learn via Gervais' blog that John Hodgman, Tina Fey, Christopher Guest and Jeffrey Tambor are now part of the team. This is shaping up to be some cast.

Ricky Gervais' This Side of the Truth Is Going to Be So Awesome
BuzzSugar —
First off:
This Side of the Truth, written and directed by Ricky Gervais, looks like it's going to be awesome. The story is set in a world where no one has ever lied, and, according to Gervais, he plays "a loser who discovers one day that he, and only he has the ability to lie. In a world where no one even understands the concept of lying, everyone totally believes, without question anything I tell them. I can say anything at all and they accept this as the gospel truth. I can get anything I want. Or can I?"

Tina Fey & Christopher Guest Want In on Ricky Gervais' 'Truth'!

As Jessica posted earlier this month, Ricky Gervais has a blog for his upcoming comedy, This Side of the Truth, and he's just announced the final casting. He writes in an entry: "We are trying to avoid the 'Hollywood actor look'. No botox, perma-tans, or unfeasibly white teeth..." Who could that mean for casting? Well, there's a short little blip that says Tina Fey and Christopher Guest have signed on, along ...

Unabashed love for Ricky Gervais is well-documented in the archives of this blog. However, even after the sublime The Office, hilarious Extras and repeat listen-friendly The Ricky Gervais Show, I was getting worried that Gervais' in production film This Side of the Truth would amount to little more than Liar Liar turned on its head. My fears have been assuaged considerably today with the casting of four mighty, and varied, comedic voices: John Hodgman, Tina Fey, Jeffrey Tambor and Christopher Guest. Gervais's 'This Side of the Truth' Production Blog Still Entertaining
I Watch Stuff - The Best Movie News Ever —
Ricky Gervais's This Side of the Truth production blog has quickly become the standard by which I'm judging all other production blogs (besides Aaron's uniquely retarded Street Fighter blog, of course). Focusing on his mock disrespect and Nerf gun assaults of his co-stars, Gervais has found a formula that is far more entertaining than the usual fare of storyboards and interviews with the costume department. In his latest video entry, he attacks Jason Bateman's bare ass with foam darts, then proceeds to remind us the Arrested Development actor is, first and foremost, Teen Wolf Too. If ...

The Closest I'll Come to a Year-End List Thing
I Watch Stuff - The Best Movie News Ever —
I don't really get into the whole end-of-year "top ten best/worst films" thing. It seems like a lot of pointless work to summarize the year into ten good or bad things when I've already spent the entire year telling you how there were probably ten good things and everything else bad things. Also, I'm a fool, so I'd definitely be wrong about most everything, and you don't need my fool opinion stacked on the thousands of others--particularly when there are "Most Insanely Apple-esque Silverhawk Vehicles" lists to get to.
But what I will do is point you to the "top ten best/worst film" list I've most enjoyed reading so ...

Ricky Gervais proposes sending Paris & Posh back to their own countries
Cele|bitchy —
Ricky Gervais is a crazy, hilarious genius. He plots and plots away in his lair, which I think is probably a nice rental in Los Angeles. What is he plotting, dare you ask? He’s plotting a way to get rid of both Victoria “Posh” Beckham and Paris Hilton.
Ricky was really upset that not only is Paris Hilton filming her horrid BBF show in London, she actually dared to buy a house in London, not far from Ricky’s house. Ricky feels that this insult to his country is some sort of cosmic payback for America accepting Posh into our hearts and our country.
Attempting to rectify the situation, Ricky wrote an ...

Gervais Has Solution To Paris
RadarOnline.com —
Ricky Gervais has asked Barack Obama to do something about Paris Hilton . The Office creator wrote a letter to the President on his blog, congratulating him for winning the race and requesting he do something about Hilton relocating to North London near his home. "Mr. President," Gervais wrote, "We are not stupid. This is clearly a retaliatory strike for Posh Spice moving to L.A. I know it, and you know it, so let's cut the 'it's a free country' nonsense and come to some agreement." In fact, the 47 year-old comedian had a solution to the Posh/Paris problem. Tom Hanks is lol
Oh No They Didn't! —
Here's something barely interesting about Tom Hanks about Kate Winslet via my boyfriend, Ricky Gervais', blog: Talking of Oscars, apparently whenever they talk about Kate Winslet's chances on US TV they show a clip of her in Extras saying she's only doing a holocaust movie to win an Oscar. I Was talking to Tom Hanks the other week (normal) and he said he heard that clip on the radio and thought it was real. He went round the whole day telling people what a crazy thing Kate Winslet said until eventually someone plucked up the courage to tell him it was from a comedy show. Hugh Jackman getting Oscar jokes from Ricky Gervais? Okay, now we're excited! Gervaishughjackmanoscars_l Ricky Gervais has revealed on his blog that Hugh Jackman called him a couple times to brainstorm jokes for Jackman's hosting duties at the Oscars. I don't know about you, but this news comes as a huge relief. After all the hullabaloo about remaking the Oscars into a lean, mean entertainment machine, I was a little worried when Jackman announced he was concocting "the nightclub of your dreams" -- it's hard not to imagine the cheesiest of Vegas cabarets. But with Ricky Gervais feeding him jokes, I'm reassured that Jackman is ...
Oscars Rumors Fly As Entire World Holds Its Collective Breath

That's Entertainment! Much like the top-secret ending to The Crying Game,* the producers of this year's Oscars ceremony have done a valiant job keeping the goings-on under a tight veil of secrecy. However, with less than two days to go until the big night, some rumors are starting to leak regarding the particulars of how Sunday is going to go down. 'This Side of the Truth' Update: Release Date! Title Confirmation!
I Watch Stuff - The Best Movie News Ever —
On Ricky Gervais's blog, the comedian has posted a new video with himself and This Side of the Truth co-writer/co-director Matt Robinson. The two clear up a couple things:
1. Contrary to reports otherwise, the title is still This Side of the Truth, not Truthy Truthness.
2. The tentative release date is September 25, 2009.
Apologies for previously reporting the title had been changed to The Invention of Lying, and that the film would be released in 2010. Sometimes I forget the internet is a liar.

FlicksNews.net —
Ricky Gervais has changed the title of his debut film as director 'This Side Of Truth' and reverted it back to its original title 'The Invention Of Lying' because it’s easier to market. The move comes just two weeks after he changed the name of 'The Men From The Pru' to 'Cemetery Junction', after the financial services company objected to its name being used in the story of two insurance salesmen in Reading in the Seventies. Gervais said: ‘We changed the name of the movie at the last possible moment. The titles go on this week. If we’d have changed our minds next week it would have cost a lot of dollars. ...

Ricky Gervais Goes Badass for ‘Cemetary Junction’

"Been To The Gym?"
Hollywood Elsewhere —
"Been To The Gym?" I may as join the crowd and post this HD trailer for Ricky Gervais and Matthew Robinson 's The Invention of Lying (Warner Bros., 9.25). Trailers always misrepresent what a film actually is (i.e., how it plays) so you always have to take them with a grain. But the basic impression I'm getting is that the film may be a little too on-the-nose -- an explicit comic thesis going through the movie motions. But maybe not.
