'Romancing the Stone,' 'Arthur' and 'They Live' All Up for Remake Treatment
Published 12/4/2008 by Brad Brevet at RopeofSilicon.com
... First up is Fox assigning Daniel McDermott to write a remake of the 1984 Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner adventurous rom-com Romancing the Stone. The original was a big hit that ultimately sent the careers of both Douglas and Turner as well as co-star Danny DeVito and director Robert Zemeckis into the big time. I actually enjoy the original pic and it still holds up as a solid '80s flick telling the story of a romantic adventure involving a jewel and some baddies. There is no word on what kind of, if any, changes will take place to the original story. ...
Romancing the Stone remake

RomancingtheStone.jpg I'm seeing some strange decisions in Hollywood of late but here's one of the strangest, remaking the classic and star heavy Romancing the Stone. The film starring Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner and Danny DeVito to the fore, made an incredible on screen partnership which lasted a number of films, and spawned a fun sequel. I can hardly believe it. A remake of the classic Robert Zemeckis film? Apparently so, although no one is on board as yet. Despite what The Hollywood Reporter says, ...
Fox plans to Re’Romance the Stone’ (sigh of ambivalence)
Published 12/4/2008 by Travis at WeAreMovieGeeks.com
... film pretty much made Michael Douglas and Danny Devito into movie stars, who had previously done mostly TV work. The film also launched the career of Zemeckis and helped audiences to reimagine Turner in a new light. The “remake” has been written by Daniel McDermott, who helped write ‘Eagle Eye’ and is also working on a screenplay for a remake of ‘Soylent Green’. I suppose they’ll remake ‘Jewel of the Nile’ as well?

The Stone Gets Even More Romanced
Published 12/4/2008 at Cinema Blend News
... to name a few, really knew how to throw characters into a wacky plot and make it a best. With the exception of the Lord of the Rings movies, we haven't had too many of them in this decade. But in the grand Hollywood tradition of remaking everything that didn't flop, one of the 80s classics may be coming back to teach us a thing or two about adventure. Romancing the Stone , which made stars out of Kathleen Turner, Michael Douglas and Danny DeVito, is gearing up for a remake at Fox. The Hollywood Reporter says that Daniel McDermott, who recently co-wrote Eagle Eye , has the ...

A Message for Hollywood -- Go Romance Some Other Stone!
Published 12/4/2008 by Monika Bartyzel at Cinematical
As I sit here in the middle of the night, three remakes hit the wire. Is there something in the air? All are annoying, and I'm sure some of the other lovely Cinematical writers will deal with them, so I'm going to stick with Kathleen and Michael. The Hollywood Reporter posts that Fox wants to bring Romancing the Stone back to the big screen. Kathleen Turner. Michael Douglas. Danny Devito. If you don't remember, or know (sacrilege!), the film focuses on a romance novelist who goes to Colombia to deliver a package and free her ...
For The Love Of God Hollywood, Enough With The Remakes Already
Published 12/4/2008 by Rick at TunaFlix
Believe it Roddy, it’s true.
Not one, not two, but three remakes were announced by The Hollywood Reporter today: Arthur, Romancing the Stone, and They Live. I figure everyone’s going to have a different favorite to get worked up over; for me, it’s They Live. The cult classic starring Rowdy Roddy Piper and Keith David (of “I didn’t bring it out for air” fame) is an all-time ...
