Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Planning “The Next District 9″ From Uruguyan Hot Shot Federico Alvarez
/Film —
... (via Film Junk), the film that Alvarez has signed on to make for Ghost House will also feature giant robots. He’s working with a budget of $30 to $40 million and has a $1 million fund just to fund script development. There’s apparently perks too - Alvarez, his girlfriend and also his co-writer Rodolfo Sayagués have all been relocated to new apartments in LA and given cars. Reading all of this, I had an uneasy feeling that either Alvarez has been speaking too freely or that the El Pais journalist has betrayed his confidence because we rarely hear this kind ...
Federico Alvarez Starts A Robotic Panic Attack For Sam Raimi
Cinema Blend News —
... (which I cant even pretend to translate, so thank you Film Junk for handling the down and dirty), Sam Raimi is hoping to be Federico Alvarez protector while he turns his own short film into a feature. Alvarez wrote and directed the short film Panic Attack about a very angry army of giant robots going postal on Montevido, Uruguay. The film itself is pretty cool, taking advantage of great cinematography and solid low budget effects, but lacks the same substance that Blomkamps Alive in Joburg had. Articles calling Alvarez the next Neill Blomkamp need to look past the ...
Panic Attack Director Federico Alvarez Lands a Film at Ghost House
FirstShowing.net —
... The web can do wonders for your career. Film Junk is reporting (translated from El Pais) that Uruguayan filmmaker Federico Alvarez, who unleashed his hugely popular short film Panic Attack (watch it right here) a few weeks ago online, has landed a directing gig at Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures. Alvarez has signed on to direct a sci-fi film that they're hoping will be the next District 9. They're giving him a $30 to $40 million budget, however it does not sound like Alvarez is creating a ...
Will Sam Raimi Come Up With The Next District 9? [Panic Attack!]
io9 —
... in Uruguayan newspaper El Pais says that Alvarez has signed on to direct a $30-40 million movie that may or may not be based on Panic Attack, to be produced by Raimi. According to the story, Raimi would "shield" Alvarez from business concerns, allowing him to concentrate on the movie, a la Jackson and Blomkamp on D9. Is this the new model for young filmmakers breaking into the industry, or Raimi wanting to see if D9's success is repeatable? Sam Raimi Signs Panic Attack! Director for Sci-Fi Feature Film Debut [FilmJunk] ...

... short film that Alvarez made, but it sounds like he wants to include robots in some way.
I really excited to see what Alvarez ends up doing with Ghost House. I enjoyed the hell out of his short film and it will be awesome to see what he ends up doing for a feature film with a full on budget.
If you haven’t seen the short film yet, check it out below, and then tell us what you think!

PANIC ATTACK Director Going to the Ghost House
We Are Movie Geeks —
... is reporting (and Film Junk was kind enough to serve as translator) that Alvarez has struck a deal with Sam Raimi’s production company Ghost House. Alvarez’s upcoming feature film debut is looking to have a budget of between $30-40 million. It is reportedly going to be a sci-fi film, though there is no word if, like Neill Blomkamp and DISTRICT 9, Alvarez’s first film will be a feature version of his own short. ...
Raimi Signs Director Based on Sci-Fi Short Film
Get The Big Picture —
... (by way of Film Junk), Raimi contacted Alvarez about making a Hollywood film. During the initial 90-minute phone call, Raimi invited the
director to Los Angeles, and as part of that trip, the upcoming film was developed, at least in part. It's unclear whether or not
the film will be a feature version of Panic Attack! or if it will be something else, but based on the estimated budget ($30 -
$40 million), it's probably easiest to roll in those same concepts that made the short work so well. Plus, as an unproven commodity,
why risk money on ...
Sam Raimi Wants His Own District 9, Has Panic Attack!
Film School Rejects —
... , with help from the folks at Film Junk, Alvarez has signed a deal with Ghost House that will allow him to make a feature-length version of Panic Attack! on a budget of $30-40 million. According to the report, Raimi spoke with Alvarez over the phone and the two seemed to hit if off. The idea is to recreate the relationship between Jackson and Blomkamp, allowing Raimi to handle the business side of things and Alvarez to handle the creative without getting caught up in studio politics, etc. ...
