Spike Jones and Kanye West Collaboration Overhyped. Today in Film Bloggery 10/19/09

You know how a movie can get so hyped up that by the time you see it your only possible reaction is, “that’s it?” Well, it definitely works for short films, though it’s not often enough that shorts gain so much attention. I mean “real” shorts, the kind that play at film festivals, not funny skits and user-generated YouTube videos (feel free to argue that many of these count as shorts; I won’t necessarily disagree). And yes, Spike Jonze’s We Were Once a Fairytale, which stars Kanye West, did play at a film festival (Los Angeles), so I guess that makes it a ...

Kanye West Apologizes for Leaking Spike Jonze Clip
Prefix —
Kanye West has been getting a lot of practice at apologizing to people, and he repeated the trick again on his blog yesterday (Oct. 19). West had leaked a Spike Jonze directed clip titled We Were Once a Fairytale, which was originally shot to promote his 808s and Heartbreak album.
Many clips of the video are still circulating online, and will continue to do so—it’s pretty much impossible to keep something under wraps once it’s leaked. But West has apologized for the post with a simple message on his blog that says: “Sorry I had to take it down :(.”

... Yesterday Kanye debut and later deleted the post of this 11-minute short film entitled “We Were Once A Fairytale” directed by Spike Jonze of West portraying a drunken exaggeration of his obnoxious public persona, embarrassing himself at a nightclub as “See You In My Nightmares” plays in the background. Eventually, West vomits in a bathroom, stabs himself with a sword and pulls out a demon from his stomach. Is this his way of saying he’s ready to get rid of his demons? Spike Jonze is also the same director from West’s “Flashing ...
RIP Kanye West?

... In the meantime, Kanye West has pulled a controversial short film from his site earlier today with the apology “SORRY, I HAD TO TAKE IT DOWN”. In the film titled “We Were Once A Fairytale” Kanye depicts himself as a drunken man in the club misbehaving and having sex with women. He eventually vomits and stabs himself in the stomach. It has been interpreted by many as Kanye killing his ego. (RIP) You can watch it below: ...
Kanye West Not Dead, Pulls Violent Video
TFL Scandalist —
The great thing about the internet is that Kanye West doesn’t have to leave the house to blow it up. On Sunday night, the rapper posted Once We Were A Fairytale, a bizarre short film directed by Spike Jonze, on his blog. In the clip, Kanye gets drunk, harasses women, has sex, pukes red confetti and cuts a puppet out of his stomach. The little demon promptly kills itself with a tiny sword handed over by Kanye. Weird. But even weirder is that West has yanked his stream of the clip, though copies remain online, only offering “SORRY I HAD TO TAKE IT DOWN :(” as an explanation.
If that wasn’t enough drama for Mr. Imma ...
Kanye West Is Not Dead, But His Reputation Is On Life-Support
X17 Online —
... Kanye West Yesterday, rumors swirled over the internets that Kanye West had tragically died in a car accident, but never fear Kanye fans, it was just a hoax. However, after storming the stage at the VMAs, his reputation is on life-support, and the release of a short film shot by Spike Jonze showing a drunk and out-of-control Kanye who pukes blood and cuts out a furry little demon from his stomach didn't help much either. After posting the short, We Were Once A Fairytale, on his blog , Kanye must've realized the further damage seeing him drunk, belligerent and posessed could ...
Spike Jonze Talks Kanye’s “We Were Once A Fairytale” Short Film
Rolling Stone : Rock and Roll Daily —
Anticipation for Kanye West’s collaboration with Where the Wild Things Are director and music video visionary Spike Jonze was so intense, even West himself couldn’t help but post the pair’s short film We Were Once a Fairytale when he got his hands on it a few days ago. The only problem: the clip wasn’t finished yet, and the version circulating on the Web was a leak.
“I think he was like, ‘Oh, it’s out. I’ll link to it,’ ” Jonze, who previously helmed West’s awesome “Flashing Lights” video, told the New York Times‘ Arts Beat (West yanked the video from his blog). ...
