George Bush Movie Even Sillier Than We Could Have Hoped!
Published 4/1/2008 by karina at SpoutBlog
[image] wbrolin.png We knew Oliver Stone wasn’t making W to make George W. Bush look good, but we didn’t know it was going to be an absurdist comedy. That’s the impression given by this report from ABC News , which contains several pages of details about an early draft of the script (and also misidentifies the actor cast as Bush as James Brolin instead of Josh Brolin, in the screencapped photo caption to the right). There are so many easy, cartoonish “Bush is dumb” jokes in this thing that’s it’s hard to cite a single one as being the most over the top. In flashback, George drinks vodka and orange juice out of a trash can at a frat party! ...

"W" Script Profiled
Published 4/1/2008 at Hollywood Elsewhere
"W" Script Profiled ABC News entertainment writer Marcus Baram has profiled Stanley Weiser 's W screenplay, which Oliver Stone will begin shooting later this month, in some detail. At the end of the piece he quotes Bush's former press secretary Ari Fleisher (who denies, amazingly, that Bush used salty language), myself and University of North Carolina at Wilmington history professor Robert Brent Toplin , who wrote " ...

Script Review Hints Oliver Stone's 'W' Might Just Be A Well-Cast April Fool's Joke [Defamer Investigates]
Published 4/1/2008 by STV at Defamer
The hyper-sensitive Defamer April Fool's Bullshit Scanner went off again moments ago as we browsed ABC.com's exclusive screenplay review of W, Oliver Stone's upcoming biopic about the transition of George W. Bush from spoiled drunk Texas asshole to election-stealing, malaprop-slinging, Jesus-loving Texas asshole. To this very moment, in fact, we can't verify the legitimacy of Marcus Baram's trenchant read-through whose very headline — "Daddy Issues, War Lust in Oliver Stone's W" — flirts with incredulity. To that end, we combed through Baram's script review in an attempt to determine the moments that seem authentic ...

Evaluating W
Published 4/2/2008 at Hollywood Elsewhere
... that the excerpts of Stanley Weiser 's W script, provided yesterday in an ABC News article by Marcus Baram , led them to wonder if this was some kind of April Fool's joke. These guys are monkeys, in my opinion, and they need to reel it in. Or better yet, consider what Weiser wrote this morning in an e-mail and what I wrote back. "I'm glad that you see the potential in W ," Weiser began. "As the writer of the script, you saw an early draft. The ABC News piece only pulled out the whacky sensationalistic points from that draft, as you know. "I'm also glad you nailed Ari ...

Is this how Oliver Stone will depict President Bush in 'W'?
Published 4/2/2008 by Gary Susman at Entertainment Weekly's PopWatch
... Don't know when ABC News got into the business of reviewing leaked screenplays à la Ain't It Cool News, but they have a detailed dissection of the script for W, the biopic of President Bush that Oliver Stone (pictured) is about to start shooting. (Curiously, the article fails to mention the name of the guy who actually wrote the script, Stanley Weiser, whose credits include Stone's Wall Street and that made-for-TV movie about Rudy Giuliani that starred James Woods.) Anyway, if ABC's report is accurate, then the pic looks like it's going to be a Freudian ...

Oliver Stone's Bush Biopic Will Be the Comedy Hit of 2008
Published 4/8/2008 at Vulture -- Entertainment, Music, Culture, Theater, Movies, Art -- New York Magazine Blog
Photo: Getty Images Last Tuesday, when ABC News published this report on the screenplay for Oliver Stone's upcoming George W. Bush biopic, we thought for certain it was an April Fools' prank. A subtle one, surely, but the tipoff was the parts about Bush's drinking vodka from a garbage can and yelling stuff like, "I'd like ...
