Let’s face it: a little controversy never hurt record sales. Nas knew that when he announced that a certain racial epithet would be the title of his ninth record, polarizing the hip-hop community and igniting a firestorm of commentary on the appropriateness of the name. After pressure from his record label, he relented, changing the title to simply Nas. It is now the #1 album in the country.

Madonna, N.W.A., Sex Pistols:
VH1's 10 Most Controversial Albums Of All Time
Prefix —
[image] In honor of Nas' album of the title-that-must-not-be-named, Vh1.com has posted a list of the 10 most controversial albums ever that's sure to start...controversy? (and traffic). The unordered list includes Marilyn Manson, Madonna, N.W.A., and rest easy The Sex Pistols. But the list certainly has a mainstream slant. Insane Clown Posse and t.a.T.u. over The Dead Kennedys and Black Sabbath? Outrage! Appreciators of all things meta will love yelling over which album is more controversial, and VH1 will reap the page views. Enjoy!
