Another big blast of indie pop coming from Manchester in 2009 is The Answering Machine . The band have an upcoming tour supporting Ra Ra Riot. They then head out on the road on a rotating headlining tour through March with Flashguns & Casiokids. Below is the press release it’s a pretty accurate description, I think it’s fair to say they deliver nothing new but they do deliver well. Do you get my drift? They are fresh, fast and furious. Enough said! the-answering-machine The Answering Machine release their new single, “Cliffer”, on the 9th March through brand new indie label, ...

There Goes The Fear —
... A friend introduced me to The Answering Machine a couple of days ago. His way of selling it to me wasn’t great, but when I checked them out I realised he actually was telling the truth - they’re pretty good. Then I found the picture at the top of this post, and decided that any guitar band that can get out glitter and sport the nerd-chic glasses that bassist Gemma is wearing is ace in my books. The Manchester-based four-piece have spent much of 2008 holed-up in North Yorkshire working on their debut album with the legendary Manic ...

the finest kiss —
... It’s been some time since we heard from Manchester’s the Answering Machine. I kept expecting an album from them last year but they stayed in hibernation for most of last year, holed up in some cave recording their debut long player with producer Dave Eringa (Idlewild & Manic Street Preachers). Well it looks like they’re finally done with it and the first fruits of the record are getting to see the light of day. ...

There Goes The Fear —
... Anyone not in the know might have thought tonight was a joint headlining show. Such was the strength of main support, Manchester’s The Answering Machine. We could use many phrases to describe them, however we’ll nick one from a guy stood behind us to his mate: “They’re like the Strokes if they’d been to Art School and didn’t have money, together with Franz Ferdinand if they’d bunked off Art School or if they’d not spent years poncing around”. Couldn’t have put it better myself. ...

Alright. Since I saw you last, we've been blessed with a beautiful baby girl and two major surgeries that seem to have my son pointed in the right direction healthwise. It's been an insanely busy and emotionally rollercoastery time. Myspace The Answering Machine's video for their new single, "Cliffer," is easily the best video I've seen so far this year (even if it will probably give me nightmares tonight). It's touching and funny, the colors are great, and it features some great performance footage... basically, it's everything a band would want out of a video. Although I'm doubting that the song is really about the falling out of a ventriloquist and his dummy, I think the video is a perfect fit for the upbeat indie-rock song as the ...

We first mentioned The Answering Machine on Snow Day (wow, seems so long ago now), and then caught them live just a few weeks later. Review: The Answering Machine – Another City, Another Sorry
There Goes The Fear —
I’ve been a bit supporter of The Answering Machine lately here on TGTF. Normally not my sorta thing, this bunch of Manchester indie kids have bags of talent.
Think of the Strokes. Take away their pretentiousness, and add in some Manchester style. You’re halfway there. They’re loud, they’re raucous, but above all they have great tunes – mainstream enough to (hopefully) get radio play, edgy enough that they won’t do a Scouting for Girls or Hoosiers on us. As a randomer behind me put it so ...

The Answering Machine – Another City, Another Sorry
The Line Of Best Fit —
... impression, though, is that their best might still be to come when they find a way of roughing things up a bit from the slightly too clean production lines throughout this album, advancing their influences away from something Absolute Radio might gladly playlist towards a happy point between their dynamic abilities and their potential range. For now it still feels like great guitar pop searching for a way to fulfil its potential.

[image] OK. I have good news and bad news here. The good news is that I really, really enjoyed The Answering Machine’s set. They were a great addition to the fest and as one of the European groups on the bill, one that I’m not likely to see any other way. The bad news is that I really don’t remember that much about them. I remember it was some quick, guitar-driven songs that seemed like a grown-up version of what NME has been digging for the past six years, but really their Myspace could have told me that. However, I remember thinking as I walked away from their set that ...

... At this point I returned to Pianos to catch The Answering Machine, a British four piece who I had heard rave reviews of throughout the week. The band turned out to be my favorite performance of the week, with high energy, catchy pop-punk tunes, and the signs of true passion and enjoyment of the faces of each member of the band. It was a breath of fresh air that was much needed amongst some acts that took themselves far too seriously. This was the kind of band I would have wanted to have as a teenager and they nailed every moment of their far too short ...
