Of course a lot is being said and written about the passing of comic actor Harvey Korman at the age of 81. And from what I’ve seen so far, much of the movie bloggers’ tributes rightly focus on Korman’s terrific turn as Hedley Lamarr in Mel Brooks’ classic Blazing Saddles . But as it happened, I never saw Blazing Saddles in the theater; I would come to love its deviant comedy and thrilling satire much later in life. ... Harvey loved to clown around, his daughter Katherine said. “He was always funny in real life,” she said. “He would like to see how far he could push the limits, making people laugh. If he were here now, he would want us to be joking.”

Harvey Korman, Emmy Award winning star of film and television, passed away yesterday at the age of 81. Korman is best known for his work on the long-running comedy classic The Carol Burnett Show, for which he won four Emmys and a Golden Globe. Ok, what the hell is going on? All the news lately has been so depressing these past few days. We lost some legends: Yves Saint-Laurent, Bo Diddley, Harvey Korman. Then yesterday Tatum O'Neal was arrested for buying crack and Kelsey Grammar had a heart attack. I won't even bring up Clay Aiken procreating again! Geez, what else? And you can't even escape for a couple hours by watching tv because the only shows on are Living off Lindsay Lohan and a shit-eating pig on ...
