'The Ruins' Gets New Posters, New Trailer, and an R for Restricted
Cinematical —
... The official site also has a new "red-band" trailer up, and it's even better than the "all ages" teaser that appeared a few weeks back. Ooh, and best of all: The Ruins has been rated R by the MPAA for "strong violence and graphic images," in addition to some other adult-oriented stuff. So to those who were worried that Smith's story would be toned down for a PG-13 crowd, feel free to offer some thanks to Paramount and DreamWorks. ...

... (official site) is based on. I thought the book was one of the more entertaining fiction books I’ve read in a long time. I didn’t want to put it down once I started reading. I read the whole thing in one week (over half of it in one day).I’ve been hearing a LOT of really good things about the movie. I’ve been hearing people talk about how this isn’t your average horror film and how this is a different kind of scary movie. Well, after reading the book I could certainly see how this movie could be something special so I got back on ...

... about the impending divorce between Paramount and DreamWorks is the photo of Laura Ramsey and Jena Malone in The Ruins (DreamWorks, 4.4), an apparently standard kids-in-peril horror film from director Carter Smith and screenwriter /novelist Scott B. Film Gecko —
“The Ruins” hits theaters April 4, 2008 (next Friday!), and it looks awesomely scary. Based on the Scott Smith novel, it centers on a group of friends whose leisurely Mexican holiday takes a tragic turn when they accompany a fellow tourist on a remote archaeological dig in the jungle. <insert creepy music here> Of course, something evil lurks among the ruins.
Directed by Carter Smith and written by Scott Smith, The Ruins stars Jonathan Tucker, Laura Ramsey, Jena Malone, Shawn Ashmore, and Joe ...

... upon which it’s based (I’d never even heard of it before), but because I discovered that it’s about a little girl having adventures and rescuing her dad. There simply aren’t enough movies about little girls doing cool stuff, and I really like Abigail Breslin (from Little Miss Sunshine and Definitely, Maybe ). And then I discovered that the dad is played by Gerard Butler in full-on Indiana Jones mode. So, you know: yum. I have read the book upon which The Ruins is based -- I first wrote about it , and how absolutely horrific it is, and ...

... tree, this vine is growing inside your skull. Those tap roots are sunk into your frontal lobe. Those tendrils are pushing their way through your nasal cavity, towards the sunlight, and their unfurling leaves are blocking your airways. Imagine this vine is growing so fast, you can feel it moving beneath your skin like a snake, curling down the back of your throat; its tough tendrils wedging your jaw open, so its leaves can bloom out of your mouth and soak up the sunlight. Welcome to The Ruins , a movie that will leave you with a deep and everlasting fear of... shrubbery. This ...

... between the ending of the book and the movie, and I liked the movie version better. Maybe I didn t like it better but it played out better on screen, adding a spice of Greek tragedy that helped sell the movie even more. Scott Smith ( A Simple Plan the screenplay and the novel it was based on) wrote them both and had the sense to make the change for the movie. Who am I to tell him what to do with his own story? And there s the rub. Film Rating: *** out of **** Official [ Movie Site ] busy
