Published 2/22/2008 at Hollywood Elsewhere
... since early January. (Even with a script by Aaron Sorkin and rumors about Will Smith playing Bobby Seale and Sacha Baron Cohen playing Abbie Hoffman, etc.) Make the Abraham Lincoln movie with Liam Neeson . Make the Abraham Lincoln movie with Liam Neeson. Make the friggin' Abraham Lincoln movie with Liam Neeson already! I called Spielberg spokesperson Marvin Levy three minutes ago to check on this, but all I got was a message machine. (Oh, wait...it's lunch hour.) The Trial of the Chicago 7 is a new film written by Aaron Sorkin (A Few Good ...

... Lee Weiner. Their lawyers, eventually brought up on contempt charges, were William Kunstler and Leonard Weinglass. These ten men give the film its title, despite the tradition of referring to the trial of the Chicago 7; Rubin once suggested that such a designation was racist (ignoring Seale, who was eventually tried separately), and unfair to the lawyers. I look forward to watching Steven Spielberg and Aaron Sorkin trip up on that question during a press conference for the upcoming Trial of the Chicago 7 . But let us not muddy the waters with an upcoming bit of Oscarbait. We ...

... ) and I was only initially interested in Spielberg because he did such a good job with Munich. As for Greengrass, sure he can direct great Bourne movies, but that doesn't mean he'll make this entertaining. So far this sounds like a real scoop, so we'll be sure to let you know if it's confirmed or not. The Trial of the Chicago 7 is a film written by ...
