There Will Be Blood theatrical trailer
Published 10/3/2007 by Chris at Movie Marketing Madness
... This is a much more traditional trailer for There Will Be Blood, starring Daniel Day Lewis and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, than the ones we’ve seen before. It’s designed much more for a mainstream audience, presenting a simple tale of greed and ambition and not so much of the disturbing religion, though there’s still plenty of that in there. It’s really good and hopefully will bring in a larger audience to a movie that, based on initial screening reactions, deserves a bit of success. [via ...

... ’s fifth feature, There Will Be Blood , is not simply an amplified feeling of distress but distress itself: a seething perpetual pressure, unremitting, brutal, always on the brink of eruption. Yet the threat (or the promise) of the film’s title is a mere hint of the lurking, bubbling terror within. More pointedly, the title — written in a skuzzy, white, printing press Old English across the width of the film’s opening black screen — is the film’s first trigger pulled to wring its audience anxious and uneasy for a terse, dire, cunning two hours and forty minutes. Flipping ...

10 Annoying Anachronisms In Modern Movies
Published 11/29/2007 by Dan at film babble blog
One of the only flaws in NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN (which if it's not the best film of the year - it'll do 'til the best film of the year gets here) set in 1980, is that a Carl's Jr. restaurant with a current day sign complete with cartoon smiley face star logo can be seen in the background. Also a modern Domino's Pizza typeface on a storefront is clearly visible even in a night scene shoot-out. These don't truly distract from the action but they did take me out of the movie somewhat. A lot of anachronisms in the movies are pretty forgivable - a car model not in line with the timeline can be overlooked, much use of music ...

There Will Be Blood Review

It’s almost become an automatic like taxes and death. When you hear, on the very rare occasion, that Daniel Day Lewis has accepted a role in a film, you start instantly wondering how much Oscar buzz he’ll get, because you KNOW he’ll get some no matter what. It’s a by product of Lewis becoming one of the most consistently outstanding actors of all time, and the fact that he seems to be VERY selective about which projects he’ll get involved with. Put it into perspective: In the last 20 years Samuel L Jackson has chosen to appear in over 77 films. Daniel Day Lewis has chosen to appeared ...

Anderson movies aren't the sort that you can (or at least should) have a fully developed opinion of the second you walk out of the theater. I'm totally suspicious of "masterpiece!" reviews from any critics about any film that they've written within a day of the screening. There Will Be Blood (2007) is loosely inpsired by Upton Sinclair's novel Oil! and it wonderfully plays out like a novel on the big screen. That's one of my favorite lines I use that would best describe the film's narrative. If it doesn't play out as a traditional movie would, but appears on the screen in a style similar to the experience of reading a book then it "plays out as a novel on the big screen." The Assassination of Jesse James (2007) had a similar mood, but it was the vocal narration that really pushed it into ...

2007 OSCAR PREDICTIONS
Published 2/18/2008 by Tim at Antagony & Ecstasy
... There Will Be Blood Will/should win: No Country for Old Men Spoiler: Michael Clayton If I had just woken up from a coma this morning and was given the list of nominees, I would almost certainly think that Michael Clayton was going to win, and here's why: Atonement is clearly out of the running - no Director nomination. If being a comedy weren't enough to kill Juno , then being a teen comedy would do the trick. There Will Be Blood is too depressing, and No Country is too depressing and too violent. Although it wouldn't have taken that much work, really; Michael Clayton ...

The Oscars Were Last Night
Published 2/25/2008 by idontlikeyouinthatway.com at IDontLikeYouInThatWay.com
The biggest excuse for Hollywood to suck itself off celebrated its 80th anniversary last night, and with the exception of Tilda Swinton, the winners went pretty much as expected. And as usual, they were mostly wrong. There Will Be Blood got robbed and if I was a 15 year old girl, I'd feel pretty good about my chances at winning a screenwriting Oscar next year. "That ain't no Etch-A-Sketch. This is one doodle that can't be un-did, Homeskillet." Really? That's a line from an Oscar-winning screenplay? If I heard someone talk like that in real life, my only recourse would be an ...

David Spade: There Will Be Oscars

You may or may not like his style of comedy, but David Spade sure knows how to throw together a quick spoof video. As seen in the video that I've added below you will find his satirical monologue poking fun at Daniel Day-Lewis for his Oscar nomination (which later resulted in a win) for There Will Be Blood (2007). Must Read: Hunter Stephenson’s Movie Review of There Will Be Blood
Published 3/1/2008 by orfilms@gmail.com (slashfilm.com) at /Film
... While the timing is certainly right, this is not a film about oil as much as a man, and “Man” in general, surviving in a world plagued by the inexistent, mythic supernatural. The issues of religion and God slowly seep (“seepage!”) into this film and fully consume it by its end, and perhaps that explains why the ending is so off putting to many viewers (the film still has an 8.7 rating on IMDB, so maybe not that many). It’s a purposeful change in trajectory, and if you were paying attention, you’ll see it as the film’s ultimate, if not only, objective. ...

... There Will Be Blood has been the first film in a long time that has left me dumbstruck after seeing it. I wasn't sure what I thought of it at first, other than the fact that it was an extremely powerful experience, and I felt like the film stayed with me after leaving the cinema, as I was still thinking about it as I lay I bed last night. It's pretty rare for any film to be this potent an experience, and I have to admit I'm still collecting my thoughts while writing this. ...

Forty years ago last Wednesday (April 2. 1968), 2001: A Space Odyssey had it’s world premiere. At Movie City Indie, Ray Pride at has a set of links to, among other things, some of the critical reaction at the time, including this quote from Roger Ebert:
It was e. e. cummings, the poet, who said he’d rather learn from one bird how to sing than teach 10,000 stars how not to dance. I imagine cummings would not have enjoyed Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, in which stars dance but birds do not sing. The fascinating thing ...
