Keanu Reeves in talks to star as a Samurai in Carl Rinsch’s 47 RONIN
GeekTyrant —
Keanu Reeves is in final negotiations to star as a samurai swordsman in Universal’s period film 47 Ronin, which is likely to be the feature directorial debut of commercial helmer Carl Rinsch.
Rinsch was originally in line to direct the Alien prequel/reboot, having been hand picked by producers Tony Scott and the original franchise launcher, Ridley Scott. But Fox wouldn’t greenlight the film unless Ridley was at the helm, and so Rinsch got the boot. Universal seems to have infinitely more faith in Rinsch, entrusting the first timer to helm the ...
Hollywood, land of confusion
Premium Hollywood - Entertainment blog, Hollywood blog, movie blog, TV blog —
Today, much of the confusion appears to be ethnic.
* Patrick Goldstein presents the U.K. based “Case of the Vanishing and Less Famous African-Americans.”
* Universal is “circling” a director of commercials named Carl Erik Rinsch for a shot at the big time for a new action flick, writes Michael Fleming. Rinsch, who I never heard of until now, turns to have an pretty interesting visual approach (more about that in tonight next’s post), but these days every third movie is from some first-timer whose made his or her name doing commercials. Also, Keanu Reeves is the star. Nothing surprising or ...
Carl Rinsch up for 47 Ronin
Total Film News —
Carl Erik Rinsch is close to directing 47 Ronin, with Keanu Reeves starring, for Universal. You might recall former ad director Rinsch as the man originally pushed by Ridley Scott to handle the Alien prequel before taking the job himself. While he's no longer attached to Alien, it looks like he'll almost certainly tackle the period samurai swordsmen tale with Reeves playing one of a group of warriors who avenge the death of their master. It's partly based on true events, but will be spiced up with 300-style battle scenes, with a script by Wanted co-writer Chris Morgan. [Source: Variety] ...
Rinsch wants 47 Ronin
KillerFilm —
Carl Erik Rinsch is in negotiations to direct Keanu Reeves in 47 Ronin. This feature, under Universal Pictures, tells the story of a band of samurai swordsmen who avenge the death of their master in 18th century Japan (Variety). The film will be produced by Pam Abdy and Scott Stuber under Stuber Pictures with Chris Morgan penning the script. Morgan’s previous written work includes Fast and Furious, the fourth film to the illegal race car driving franchise.
Rinsch, believe it or not, was previously in talks to direct the prequel to the Ridley Scott film Alien for awhile. No word yet on when exactly ...
Ridley Scott's Son-In-Law Will Make Keanu Reeves A Samurai
Cinema Blend News —
Ridley Scott's Son-In-Law Will Make Keanu Reeves A Samurai Carl Erik Rinisch is a name you'll only recognize if you were following the ridiculous back-and-forth that occurred when Fox wanted to make a new Alien movie only if Ridley Scott directed it, and Scott wanted to hand it off to his son-in-law Rinisch. Eventually they threw enough money at Sir Ridley to get him to come back anyway, and Rinisch was left as an experienced commercials director with sweet connections but no project to call his own. No longer! Variety ...
Carl Rinsch to direct Reeves in '47 Ronin'
The Screening Log —
Carl Erik Rinsch is in talks to direct Universal's samurai action flick "47 Ronin," which already stars Keanu Reeves. This big-budget project will mark commercial director Rinsch's feature film debut.
The film follows a gang of samurai swordsmen who seek revenge for the death of their master in 18th century Japan. Reeves will play one of the men. Chris Morgan ("Wanted") wrote the script.
Variety describes the film as follows: The picture mixes the fantastical elements of films like "The Lord of the Rings" with battle scenes of the sort found in "Gladiator" and "300."
