Firefly coming to Blu-Ray!
Pop Critics — ... exciting news. The only way to see this show in HD has been on UniversalHD which only a few satellite providers carry. Staite mentioned that she had been called in to provide “new commentary” for this special edition, so not only will it be Blu, but it’s also going to have all-new special features. Awesome. It could be a race now to Mike’s Blu-Ray player purchase…whichever comes out first. Related posts What to watch: DVD releases for ...

Direct TV to expire your PPV movies after 24 hours
Pop Critics — ... tired and go to bed, you’d better finish it before 24 hours are up or you’ve lost $4.99. The only caveat is that if you don’t ever start the movie, I don’t think you get charged at all. So what do you think? Does this limitation upset you? For those of you who don’t have Direct TV, don’t think you are off the hook. It’s only a matter of time before your provider does the same thing. Related posts What to watch: DVD releases for ...

Blu-Ray lovers rejoice! Buy 2, get 1 free at Amazon.com
Pop Critics — ... The Departed, Reservoir Dogs…but nothing super exciting. Regardless, if you need or are looking to add to your library, head on over to Amazon and see if they have something you want. If I had a Blu player, I’d buy Wild Things, Into the Blue and then my free disc would be Seven Years in Tibet. (I’m kidding) Related posts What to watch: DVD releases for ...

Don’t miss the Masters MIX on Direct TV
Pop Critics — ... The HD version is on 706, the SD one is 701. The SD one is basically the same, and you should still be able to select the audio feed and also interact with the leaderboard and other such tools. So if you plan on watching it this weekend and have Direct TV, then make sure you check out these channels. You can easily select one of the PIP displays and tune to that specific channel full screen too. It’s pretty sweet. Related posts What to watch: DVD releases for ...

Survivor 17 To Film In HD
Pop Critics — ... the scripted television programs now routinely film in HD although many of the reality shows still do not. Survivor is one of the biggest shows that still films in the old 480i. With Survivor making the switch it seems that most other show of this nature will probably be forced to consider making the switch as well if they want to compete. Pop Critics — ... to spend my Federal Tax relief money that’s coming next month? So now I need to know what Blu-Ray player I should get. Amazon has quite a few, but I’m just unsure which is going to be the best choice. I figure some of you already have a player and can tell me the right way to go. I’m hoping to find one around $300-400, which will then be a bit lower with that $50 credit. So help a brother out! Related posts What to watch: DVD releases ...

Netflix going to charge extra for Blu-Ray rentals
Pop Critics — ... does it take to rent that Blu-Ray disc to make up the different? 2? 3? Firefly comes to Blu-Ray in September
Pop Critics — ... and it’s getting harder and harder all the time to ignore that fact. It’s retailed at an ugly $89.98, but Amazon has Firefly (Blu-Ray) available for pre-order at $63. NBC buys The Weather Channel, plus hurricanes in HD!
Pop Critics — ... a gem like Weather.com is no insignificant win by any means. On the visual side of things, The Weather Channel has all-new high-definition cameras, production trucks and a studio ready for the upcoming hurricane season. We’d rather not see a massive hurricane strike the U.S. of course, but if we do see action later this summer, at least we’ll experience it in crystal-clear HD. No “Firefly” on Blu-Ray until 2009
Pop Critics — ... fans out there. We told you not too long ago that the entire Firefly series would be out on high-definition Blu-Ray in September of this year, but Digital Bits is reporting that date is no longer valid. Looks like it will be 2009 sometime before we ever see it. All that does is push back my need for a Blu-Ray player. Still waiting on Firefly or Lord of the Rings! The crews who brought us those stunning visuals in Earth will next explore both the Arctic and Antarctic. The downside is that we wont see any of it until 2012. 30 more HD channels coming soon to DirecTV
Pop Critics — ... Green might be cool as well, but the rest of them amount to a lot of sports stations that I’ll never watch. I’m more excited about the 1080p on-demand movies that will be coming later this year. All of this new stuff is the result of the DirecTV 11 satellite that was launched into orbit earlier this year. They’ll be continuing to add HD content as DirecTV 12 is already scheduled to blast off in early 2009. Related posts What to watch: DVD releases for ...
