... high definition was to import now discontinued HD-DVDs from Japan.
I need to see this series and perhaps the Blu-Ray release will be a good time to get a player.
On a side note, according to Wikipedia, the creators of Brothers, including Hanks and Spielberg, are currently developing The Pacific, which focuses on the Pacific Theatre of Operations.

... Disney HD. That brings their HD channel total to 95, with a new satellite being launched later this year which is going to have capacity for a few hundred more.
If you don’t have DTV by now and you have an HD TV, you are really missing out on the good stuff.

Firefly coming to Blu-Ray!

... exciting news. The only way to see this show in HD has been on UniversalHD which only a few satellite providers carry.
Staite mentioned that she had been called in to provide “new commentary” for this special edition, so not only will it be Blu, but it’s also going to have all-new special features. Awesome.
It could be a race now to Mike’s Blu-Ray player purchase…whichever comes out first.

The only caveat is that if you don’t ever start the movie, I don’t think you get charged at all.
So what do you think? Does this limitation upset you? For those of you who don’t have Direct TV, don’t think you are off the hook. It’s only a matter of time before your provider does the same thing.

... The HD version is on 706, the SD one is 701. The SD one is basically the same, and you should still be able to select the audio feed and also interact with the leaderboard and other such tools.
So if you plan on watching it this weekend and have Direct TV, then make sure you check out these channels. You can easily select one of the PIP displays and tune to that specific channel full screen too.
It’s pretty sweet.

With Survivor making the switch it seems that most other show of this nature will probably be forced to consider making the switch as well if they want to compete.

Universal unveils Blu-Ray plans for 2008

... on July 22nd is when we’ll get three older films released on Blu-Ray: The Mummy, The Mummy Returns and the series spin-off, Scorpion King.
Coming sometime after that (but before the end of the year) are also The 40-Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Miami Vice, End of Days, U-571and Land of the Dead.

Help me choose a Blu-Ray player

... to spend my Federal Tax relief money that’s coming next month?
So now I need to know what Blu-Ray player I should get. Amazon has quite a few, but I’m just unsure which is going to be the best choice. I figure some of you already have a player and can tell me the right way to go.
I’m hoping to find one around $300-400, which will then be a bit lower with that $50 credit.
So help a brother out!

I dunno, but to me that seems like a charge just to charge people for something they should be getting anyways.

I don’t see how they will work over a streaming box, and therefore it does make me hesitant to think this will make Blu-Ray obsolete.

For the die-hard Top fans, this will end up being a great addition to your collection. This is almost as good as being there.

It’s retailed at an ugly $89.98, but Amazon has Firefly (Blu-Ray) available for pre-order at $63.
I would cry even more if I hadn’t watched the entire series on Universal HD already, but I really am curious what kind of high-def special features this new release will have.

From there, it’s all fun and games. My wife loves to download the HGTV shows on demand, and I know right now you can see episodes of The Office, 30 Rock and Heroes for a small rental fee.
It’s a sweet deal, and if you have a Direct TV DVR already, find a way to hook this up and test it out.

On the visual side of things, The Weather Channel has all-new high-definition cameras, production trucks and a studio ready for the upcoming hurricane season.
We’d rather not see a massive hurricane strike the U.S. of course, but if we do see action later this summer, at least we’ll experience it in crystal-clear HD.

... fans out there. We told you not too long ago that the entire Firefly series would be out on high-definition Blu-Ray in September of this year, but Digital Bits is reporting that date is no longer valid.
Looks like it will be 2009 sometime before we ever see it.
All that does is push back my need for a Blu-Ray player. Still waiting on Firefly or Lord of the Rings!

The downside is that we wont see any of it until 2012. By then who knows what the landscape of high definition will even look like.

... Green might be cool as well, but the rest of them amount to a lot of sports stations that I’ll never watch.
I’m more excited about the 1080p on-demand movies that will be coming later this year.
All of this new stuff is the result of the DirecTV 11 satellite that was launched into orbit earlier this year. They’ll be continuing to add HD content as DirecTV 12 is already scheduled to blast off in early 2009.

... stuff from DTV isn’t an exact science. You have to be persistent on most occasions. But this was pretty easy for me. I called up, said I was looking at this flyer for the free SuperFan deal which expires today, so I wanted to make sure I took advantage before it was too late.
Five minutes later, I had it for free.
You just have to call 1-800-GET-SPORTS and do the same thing. Or at least try. I might have gotten lucky.

... the Firefly Blu-Ray set and then Lord of the Rings hopefully sometime in 2009. I’ve been putting off my annual LotR Marathon until I have the high-definition versions to watch and the wait is getting excruciating.
So give me suggestions on the first Blu-Ray movie I should watch/purchase. My mind says to wait until November 11th for Firefly, but do any of you really believe I can hold out that long?

... of us have gotten used to our new DVRs and how they operate. Will those users be willing to make yet another switch?
I know I will. While I love the simple, one-touch, quick recording ability on the DirecTV DVR, I miss the ability to quickly fast-forward through a show via the tick-marks that TiVo has.
What do you guys think? Any former TiVo owners out there? Will you want to go back?
