They say that the early response to the film has been phenomenal and they’d like to take six months or so and convert it to 3D. ...
Joss Whedon's Cabin in the Woods Pushed Back to Early 2011!
FirstShowing.net —
... Didn't see this coming! A few sites, including STYD and Collider, are reporting (with confirmation from MGM) that Joss Whedon's new horror movie Cabin in the Woods has been delayed an entire year. It was originally set for release on February 5th, 2010 next year but has been pushed back to January 14th, 2011. Why? Apparently the "early response to the film has been phenomenal and they're going to spend six months or so converting the picture to 3-D." While that's all good so far, I also think MGM is ...
Joss Whedon’s CABIN IN THE WOODS Pushed Back a Year
We Are Movie Geeks —
If you were waiting with baited breath for Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard’s CABIN IN THE WOODS, you’re just going to have to wait a little bit longer. It appears the almighty dollar has won out. Shock Till You Drop is reporting that the horror film, initially set to scare its way into theaters on February 5th, 2010, has been pushed back nearly a full year to January 14th, 2011. The reason? According to MGM reps, early buzz on the film has been phenomenal, and the studio wants the time to convert the film over to 3-D.
Now, it is no surprise how I feel about films that are transferred over to 3-D after ...
Joss Whedon’s Cabin in the Woods Delayed Until 2011 for 3-D Conversion
/Film —
... Word has been trickling out about the Joss Whedon/Drew Goddard co-written project Cabin in the Woods for some time now, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t getting psyched for the film’s release this February (on my birthday, no less!). Now according to our friends over at ShockTillYouDrop, we’ll have to wait a lot longer to see the finished product: Word is that the film, which is also being directed by Goddard, is being delayed until January 11, 2011 while MGM converts it to 3-D. ...

'Cabin in the Woods' Bumped to 2011, Going 3-D
Get The Big Picture —
... You might wonder why the film would be delayed an entire year, and according to Shock Till You Drop, MGM is making the move to transfer the film to 3-D. The studio has apparently been encouraged by early reactions to the film, so clearly the thing to do is wait a year to release it and turn a movie that wasn't made to be 3-D into a 3-D frightfest. ...
Joss Whedon's "Cabin in the Woods" Bumped a Year (To Add 3D?)
:: The Playlist :: —
"Cabin in the Woods" seemed like it was going to be a genuine genre gem. The horror flick, which has been shrouded in secrecy (besides some hilarious Comic Con posters that said stuff like "If something is chasing you… Split up."), was co-written by "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" braintrust Joss Whedon and "Cloverfield" scribe Drew Goddard, with Goddard also directing. Goddard was also responsible for some of the best later-year "Buffy" episodes as well as some choice hours of "Lost" (including the first ...
Joss Whedon's 'Cabin' Delayed a Year to Go 3-D
Cinematical —
Not much is known about Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard's pet horror project, The Cabin in the Woods, beyond a few snarky posters released at last summer's Comic-Con and a Feburary 5th, 2010 release date. Now, MGM is apparently so pleased with whatever the two are cooking up that they want to convert the already shot film to 3-D -- a process that has the release tentatively rescheduled for January 14th, 2011.
That's right, a full year's delay. Not the best of omens for any film. However, in the name of all that is silver lining, we turn to our trusted colleagues over at CHUD and Hitfix ...
Joss Whedon's 'Cabin in the Woods' Pushed to 2011 for 3-D Conversion
Oh No They Didn't! —
MGM Studios has decided to push Joss Whedon's anticipated horror flick "The Cabin in the Woods," directed and co-written by Cloverfield's Drew Goddard, back nearly a year, from its original release date of February 5, 2010 to the new date of January 14, 2011. ...
Saturday film news web roundup: Lars von Trier picks next film; Roland Emmerich talks projects
The Screening Log —
[image] It's Saturday again, and here's a brief entry with short descriptions and links to film news we either missed or quite honestly didn't have time to add. Here's what you need to know on October 10, 2009: Filmmaker Lars von Trier will next write and direct a disaster film titled "Planet Melancholia." Plot details are kept under wraps, but I'm sure we're in for a visually stunning film. Trier last helmed "Antichrist." "Planet Melancholia" should be ready by the time Cannes rolls around in 2011. ( The Hollywood Reporter ...
Cabin in the Woods delayed for 3D
Filmstalker —
3D.jpg Joss Whedon doesn't seem to have great success with Hollywood, and yet his latest project seemed right up their street, horror, and at a time when horror was at the forefront. Except it seems they aren't that interested in his film right now because not only have they pushed the release date back by a month short of a year, but they are going to convert it to 3D. Now that's a bad sign. Ask most real film fans and you'll find that this is a terrible news, the idea of putting a film into 3D in the first place is a bad sign unless there's a huge budget and some driving creative force, so far there's only a few being developed like that, and ...
Whedon's Cabin Gets Pushed Back A Year And In Your Face [Cabin In The Woods]
io9 —
... Woods? Here's the bad news: Its release date has been pushed from February 2010 to January 2011... because so many people want to see it. Whuh? The reason given by studio MGM for the release date shift is because advance tracking for the movie has been so positive that they're going to convert the Goddard-directed, Whedon co-written movie into 3D. Whether the almost year-long shift for release will lower that advance anticipation remains to be seen, of course. Whedon's Cabin in the Woods Pushed, Going 3-D! [Shock Till You Drop]

Film: Newswire:Goddard and Whedon's Cabin In The Woods taking a year off to add third dimension
A.V. Club —
Former Angel/Buffy collaborators Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard have been working together on a horror film called The Cabin In The Woods, which MGM had been planning to spring on genre fans in February of next year, in a "tease 'em but tell 'em nothing" marketing campaign similar to the one that worked so well for the Goddard-penned Cloverfield. But plans change. According to various horror news sites ...
