Published 2/25/2008 by Snarky at poponthepop.com
I didn’t really watch much of the Oscars last night but I did catch the video tribute for everyone in the industry who had passed away in the past year. I never saw Brad Renfro come up which I thought was pretty odd since he passed away a week before Heath Ledger. A rep for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences says they couldn’t “fit everyone in”. “It was really an editing decision because we can’t fit everyone in,” a rep for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences tells Usmagazine.com. “There was no specific reason.” The montage featured footage of late actors, including Heath Ledger, who passed away a week after Renfro. What a bunch of ...

So the big news o' the day has to be about the 80th Annual Academy Awards that went down here at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, CA last night ... but before we get to all of that, let's get our daily dose of Britney Spears out of the way first ... not that there is a lot to talk about (thank the Gods) but with all the positive progress that our dear Britney has been making this past few weeks, I think it's worth nothing all of the good stuff now that there's "good stuff" to be had. After spending part of her weekend with her children, Sean Preston and Jayden James , Brit Brit went out on the town Saturday night with her father and conservator ...

... a rep offered, "It was really an editing decision because we can't fit everyone in. There was no specific reason." Ignoring for a moment the fact that they really blew it on this one, this statement suddenly had us wondering what the whole whittling process entails. Is it just a morbid casting session, where they get a stack of headshots and go through them by committee? ("Sure, Roscoe Lee Browne has the look, but his last project bombed! OK, fine, we'll put him in the Maybe pile.") [Usmagazine.com] ...

WHY NO BRAD RENFRO ON THE OSCAR TRIBUTE?
Published 2/26/2008 by Scott Macaulay at Filmmaker Magazine
Us Magazine has a piece on their website about why Brad Renfro didn't appear in the Oscar tribute last night to those who passed away in the preceding year. For the record, an Academy spokesperson chalks it up to "an editing decision." There's an active comment section following the article and most are outraged that the talented actor, who died of a heroin overdose on January 16 and who spent half his life working in the movies, wasn't included. ...
