Jackie K. Cooper: Holbrook Shines In Sun Movie

You have heard it said a thousand times that such and such got better with age. Well in the case of Hal Holbrook's acting skills it is true. At 84 his talent has never shone brighter than it does now, and his latest film That Evening Sun is a perfect example. In this film Holbrook plays Abner Meecham, an 80 year old man living in an "old folks home." One day he tires of it and starts out for his former home. Arriving there he finds his son Paul (Walton Goggins) has rented it out with an option to buy. The new renter is Lonzo Choat (Ray McKinnon). Abner has a very low opinion of Choat and tells him so. He also tells him to get out of his house and off his land. When Choat refuses, Abner moves into the tenant building. From there he and Choat engage in a duel of wits. The plot of the movie only serves as a loose backdrop for the acting displayed. Holbrook is amazing in his portrayal of Abner. He captures the essence of the man totally and makes you ache when he aches, laugh when he laughs ...

Jackie K. Cooper: New Film Showcases the Loony In Clooney

What is it with George Clooney! How can one actor star in so many box office bombs and still be Hollywood's darling? Since 2003 this "leading man" has starred in such failures as "Intolerable Cruelty," "Syriana," "The Good German," "Leatherheads" and "Burn After Reading." The only major hit he has had in his career is the "Ocean's Eleven" series, Yet Hollywood keeps putting his name at the head of the list of desirable actors. In his latest film "The Men Who Stare At Goats" he once again puts himself front and center in a lifeless, lethargic movie. He plays Lyn Cassady, a so-called psychic or new age soldier. He allegedly can kill goats with a single stare, control his opponents with his state of mind, and do other wonderful things. This all comes to light when Bob Wilton (Ewan McGregor), a reporter, learns of an organization within the military that is trying new ways of warfare. MGM Creditors Push for Auction

By BusinessWeek It may not be long before the troubled MGM studio is forced by its creditors to seek a buyer. That’s the word coming out of a Nov. 4 meeting between MGM CEO Stephen Cooper and the debt-hobbled film company’s 140-member creditor committee. According to one source with knowledge of the meeting, the creditor group turned thumbs down on Cooper's proposal to convert the studio’s $3.7 billion debt into equity as part of a restructuring plan to keep the studio out of bankruptcy. But most overlooked is Baltimore, MD, a metropolis that has been a breeding ground of blue chip talent for nearly 50 years. A new basketball documentary, Poet Pride, looks to change this oversight once and for all by taking a look at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School.
