Hamish Hamilton has been named director of the 81st Annual Academy Awards, a sign that first-time producers Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman may push the Oscars further into the musical performance-heavy territory that the telecast found critical and ratings traction with last time around. In an interview to promote their new book, "How to be Famous: Our Guide to Looking the Part, Playing the Press, and Becoming a Tabloid Fixture," the couple told The Associated Press they're shopping the idea around to various networks. Ober, who hosted four game shows over the course of his career, was widely known for his role on the MTV game show Remote Control , which he hosted for five seasons, spanning 1987 to 1990. Ober's career began in the mid-1980s with a turn on the talent competition "Star Search" and in more recent years segued into behind-the-scenes production positions on comedy shows like "Mind of Mencia" and "The New Adventures of Old Christine." Spike Jonze had a pretty impeccable record, from directing Christopher Walken's triumphal dance in the video for Fatboy Slim's "Weapon of Choice," to producing MTV's transcendently stupid pain-porn Jackass , to his magnificent collaborations with Charlie Kaufman on Being John Malkovich and Adaptation . Nothing about that remotely suggests that he should adapt a children's book, though. He does a great job of evoking the weird and making it normal, but he's never quite pulled off believable emotion. The single is meant to reflect Travis' time spent touring the globe with MTV's Staying Alive Foundation — a nonprofit organization that aims to support young people working to prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS in their community. As Gym Class Heroes frontman traveled to South Africa, India and the Philippines, meeting young HIV/AIDS activists, he was encouraged to put his experience to music. "That was kind of the catch of the trip," Travis told MTV News. "I had to write a song that encompassed everything I saw and felt on the trip ... and also gives the listener an idea of what they can do."
