"No one on the corner got swagger like these four guys." Lil Wayne was correct; it was an event, a milestone — Weezy, Jay-Z , Kanye West and T.I. on "Swagger Like Us."
The record brought together a cross section of cities on wax and four out of the top-10 MCs in the game. "No one on the corner got swagger like us." Hell yeah, M.I.A. — the track's producer Kanye West used her voice as a secret weapon, another musical firearm to go along with that sumo-heavy bass and marching-band drum line. It arrived out of nowhere (leaked several weeks before its strategically planned debut) and immediately became an anthem for sports teams and anybody in the club. " Doc ," which airs tonight as part of the PBS series "The Independent Lens," is a daughter's film about a difficult father. Immy Humes is the filmmaker; her subject is Harold L. Humes -- nicknamed Doc after a genius in the "Buck Rogers" comic strip -- whose marquee claim to fame is that he co-founded the literary journal the Paris Review , though he didn't stick around long to run it. He also wrote two well-received novels, " The Underground City " (1958) and " Men Die " (1959), and ran Norman Mailer's first campaign for mayor of New York City. Interviewed here, the late Mailer calls Humes "one of the few people I have ever met who was . . . more vain, more intellectually arrogant than I was," which, given the source, must be accounted great praise.

Find more top entertainment news, videos, and blogs on ShowHype: Television, Independent Lens, Buck Rogers, The Underground
